i got a few arcade cabs with game in it out in the garage , and the temperature out side it's sub zero temperature!! will it cause damage to my systems and games?? how can i prevented from it being damage ??!! the temperaturn reach(-15 to -25 "C out)
the problem i have it's that the cab sizes are 10cm too big to fit throught the door and to the basement(unfinish with 1500sq feet of open space)

i'm no expert on arcade machine care, but I assume that keeping them in sub zero tempature is a bad thing.

The cabinets are 10cm too big to fit through a door? Is it an odd sized door? Any trim you can take off? Removable control panel?

I've never seen a cab that was 10cm too big to fit through a standard doorway. I've had PLENTY that were 2-4cm too big, but never 10cm.

At any rate, I honestly don't think it's going to hurt them any. It's not GOOD for them, and you can't turn them on until they NATURALLY warm up for a few days (If you put a heater back there for half an hour and turn it on, you're going to have a bad day.)

I suggest you remove the PCB Boards from the cabs and keep them inside. the CRTs should probably be okay, although I would take the advice of the parent post and let them warm back up before using them.

Never manually warm electronics...Condensation is a very bad thing.

I had my Halley's Comet cab at my dads in the garage for 2 Alberta winters, of course, never turned on. But it works fine now that I have it in the house.

I know people that have huge arcade collections (including one person that has over 1000 different games, not including doubles). All of them have told me that there is no harm in keeping any games outside, even pinball games, during the cold season. I am personally storing one of my pins and one of my arcade games outside this year.

Don't worry about it. I wouldn't suggest playing them in the extreme cold unless you really want to, but even doing so shouldn't hurt them. I know I've played a few pins in 40 degree weather with no problems...

I'd at least cover them up with a few blankets or something- keep the dust off. I'd also put them up on a pallet or some boards to keep them off the concrete floor.

Yes, this should be a given, at least throw some plastic over it and make sure the bottom doesn't get wet :)

I had my Avp CPS2 machine in a storage building for 4 years straight. So it's been through cold and heat. I moved it into the house finally a month or so ago and it's been fine.

Wouldn't you think if he could, he would?

Try reading his post again. The cabs are too big to get inside the house. That's why he's storing them in the garage.

Keeping my old Macs in the garage killed many of them. SAVE your Cabs, please.

I'd say take anything out of the cabinets that you can - if it's CPS2, then take out the A and B boards. Sounds good to me anyhow!

Still, most old cabinets that still work have been through some bad times, so these anecdotes are just as good as mine.

Taking a door off, and removing the frame is a 10-15 minute job each way, so I would have to agree that it should be brought in. I still wonder what kind of doors make it 4" to narrow though. That's one NARROW door.

Definately take the PCBs out, because the large temperature changes will cause the solder to crack, and that'd be a HUGE pain to try to resolder all the bad solder joints, but the monitor tubes should be fine, and although the monitor chassis probably won't like the cold (solder joints again), there are fewer small traces that will really be affected, and if it won't come on, resoldering the few solder joints then won't be a big deal.

But yeah, definately let them warm up a little bit before firing them up.

Maybe I'm missing something, but why can't you just store them in a different room for the winter if they won't fit through the door that leads to the basement?

i lived in a bungalow (but the asshole who design the house made it impossible (app 12sq feet>>3by 4feet) of space to manuver between 2 door and a 12step stair way up to living room or down to basement it very very steep and narrow=85cm wide)(the last time i try to move(by man powerx2) my raidenfighter cab(smaller vertical screen) i got stuck for like for 15 min(i was at the bottom, and the cab is fricken heavy , loosing grip and stopping every step(12)),also 3 conners, trying to move the cab in to my bedroom, i got the cab in to the bedroom and left like a few(too many) deep(really deep) scratche/scrape on the stairway/hand rail/hallways( and a few pictures)/door frame and on my arms , then when my parents got home they were pissed(the house wos brought new in 2002)
then i tried to do the same with the other cabs but they don't even fit threw the damn door , so i did'nt even get a chance a it ( i decided to sticked out ,and leave everything @ the garage this winter)
