On the regular Atari joystick there's a little black plastic ring that holds the rubber boot down. What's the trick to popping that thing out without breaking it? They're way fragile. Thanks!!

I don't pop it out, but I do lift it with a small screwdriver to facilitate the insertion of the boot that covers the stick.
If you remove the top half of the stick housing, you should be able to push the ring out buy pushing up on the rings little plastic studs, that are on the inside of the housing.
