Konami is planning to release a silver metallic model of the Vic Viper, the classic ship from the Gradius series. The 1/200 scale model of the Vic Viper is reminiscent of the same model that was given away to winners in a campaign to promote Gradius II on the PC Engine Super CD-ROM (Turbo Graphix CD-ROM) in 1992.
This updated model will be made out of white metal with a silver exterior. At 12 centimeters long (4.7 inches), it should be weighty enough to serve as a good paperweight.
Konami says it won't be making the product unless there are at least 200 preorders on the books by November 22. If there's enough demand, the Vic Viper will ship on March 25 at a price of 6,800 yen ($50). Konami has additional details on its Web site.

Wow, I didn't realize that the Vic Viper was about 80 something feet long in real life ( LOL ) or something (math in my head...I'm probably really wrong).

That looks beautiful. Guess we'll have to hope Japanese Gradius fans preorder it.

If I had enough extra money around I'd grab one but I don't, that will definitely be a very nice collector's item later on. 8-)

Oh my. Very nice. I'd imagine the value of this will shoot up like a rocket, especially if the numbers made are only in the low thousands.

If you can read Japanese, maybe, but knowing how the Japanese usually are about sending stuff out of the country, I kinda doubt it.

Anybody have a lead on where to get it yet?
By the way, I'd much rather have the painted model shown off in the Gradius 2 x68000 art book...but this is still pretty darn nice.
