I'm thinking of reducing my time spent online, and increasing my time spent playing games. If I manage the transition (I'm a net-addict), I figure I can possibly put the gaming time to good use and write a review or two for the site.

My question concerns assigning the numeric rankings to games. Specifically, older games. I assume, when you guys read the reviews, you keep in mind the platform a game is on. So, for example, if a game on the 2600 has a graphics ranking of 8, that is understood to be in the realm of 2600 games, and nobody expects it to be graphically on par with an NES or Dreamcast game.

Basically, the numeric value is only when compared to other games on the same platform, right?

I don't know about everybody else, but that's how I do it. If I'm reviewing an Atari 2600 game, I just compare it to other 2600 games. It's also hard with older systems that had a long run. For example, the PSX, it's hard to compare games from 1995 to games that came out 8 or 9 years later. Obviously the earlier games aren't going to be as good.

The fun score is universal though. Fun games are fun games!

Yeah, that's what I do. It's appropriate. Lets face it. Every 2600 game would get a 1 in graphics otherwise right?

That's exactly right, Steve. Games are rated against others from the same library.

I've seen your work before and anxiously await your new reviews!
