Need HELP playing JAPANESE Sonic 3 cart on a US GENESIS

I am trying to play a Japanese version of Sonic 3 on my US Genesis and it won't work due to territory lockout. :( Does anyone know if it's possible to bypass the territory lockout using Game Genie codes?
