i picked it up today loose for £3.99 :) :) :)
popped it into the snes, and the game has either german or french subtitles along with the english screen text :/
is this normal for all euro super metroids?

I don't know about the PAL version, but my copy has language options. Go to the options menu and see what kind of language options your cart has.

this should be the -FRG version of the game (look on the label for the code), there should be other versions too, don't know which ones out of my head, most likely one only in english and one in english with french and dutch subtitle and maybe ones with english+spanish and english+italy...

the -UKV one has german subtitle? that's weird, where did you see the -UKV code, on the box, manual or on the cart itself (on the front label, bottom right)

which reminds me, a fun sight to see, but there is a cameo of Buzzy Beetle (from the Mario series) hidden in Super Metroid. In a hidden wall in Maridia, there are 5 shell like turtles, a large one and the four small ones. The smaller one looks dead on like Buzzy Beetle

weird but correct, just checked what roms are available for PAL Super Metroid and that's the only one, so it's like it should be, that's a weird solution for the language problem in europe though...

cauterize, nice find! Super Metroid is my favorite game of all time. :D
A word to the wise: Do not save at the second save point (which is the last save point before you face Mother Brain) in Tourian if you intend to go back and find any items you missed after you beat the game.
I'll try to explain why without giving much away - at one point in Tourian, a door locks behind you and never reopens. I recommend saving at the first save point in Tourian - it doesn't take that long to get through Tourian and Mother Brain from there.
