Does anyone happen to know if and when Dragon Warrior 8 will be released in the US? Thanks!
Lifted from a Gamespot news blurb:
"Judging by the demos at the show, Dragon Quest VIII seems to be a promising next installment in the beloved series. Considering that Dragon Quest VII was released in the US and that Square Enix commented last year that it hoped the anime-style graphics in DQVIII would make the game a hit with overseas audiences, it's pretty much guaranteed that Dragon Quest VIII will be making its way to North American shores in the future."
I couldn't find any release dates or announcements guaranteeing release, but the above is definitely a plus.

Check the Dragon Quest News Network. If there's a release date or anything they'll probably know about it. I'm not aware of part 8 taking 5 years. I rmember part 7 took a while as it was announced kind of early in the PSX lifetime but wasn't released for some years.

Thats DW4. They ran the ad, then the Japanese developer dropped out of the game developing business after finishing the Japanese version, but before any localization work was done, and Enix decided to scrap the project.

Never played a single one, but apparently this is the most popular RPG series in Japan - even more than Final Fantasy. I always swore I'd try it one day... just never have.

Sigh.
That aside. I would imagine DW 8 will come out stateside in about 3-4 years. After the PS3 is already out, it will be released for $30 on the PS2, and Enix will say "SEE! We released ANOTHER ONE in america and it didn't sell good!"
Just like DW7.

I doubt it. DW7 as much as I loved it looked like ass even for a PlayStation title (although I found once I started getting into the game the graphics were growing on me.)
DW8 on the other hand is shaping up to be the best looking PS2 title I've ever seen.
Unless you ment that the PS2 itself will be dated hardware, as opposed to the game just looking dated. Again I doubt it, games were still coming out and selling very well long after the PS2 had debuted.

The problem is they look great NOW. As with any console, towards the last legs of the console is when they best LOOKING stuff comes out. At the time that DW7 was released in japan, DW7 had average/above average playstation 1 graphics. YEARS later, it looks very outdated on the PS1.

Sylentwulf, I think you're mistaken. DW7 came out very late in the PS1's life cycle in the U.S. AND Japan. The PS2 had been out for a while in both territories by the time it came out, but in Japan it still sold well based on its' reputation, while in the U.S. it was just an ugly-looking game for an outdated system. And I think even if this game came out early in the PS1's lifespan, its' graphics would have been considered mediocre at best. Compare it with late-gen 16-bit games and it just looks ass-ugly.

Well chooky about covered it but as for Dragon Warrior 8 looking good now, hell Dragon Warrior 8 looks good compared to some XboX titles. I think the game will stay looking impressive for some time to come.
