Starting November 14th, Nintendo of America will try to make holiday shopping easier by including Mario Kart: Double Dash!! free with the Nintendo GameCube, all for the same MSRP of $99.99. It's the perfect gift for the Mario fan without a GameCube!

When is that game ever gonna drop from $49.99. I want it very much but it's too damn expensive. Hasn't it hit player's choice yet?

Some stores already have the bundles and have been selling them already. It comes with 2 controllers apparently.

LOL It's totally met the criteria for Player's Choice status, but Nintendo sucks.
PS- I own a GameCube, so shut up. (You know who you are) LOL

Mario Kart is the Gamecube's Halo, which is a statement not comparing the two based on their gaming merits, but (lopsided) sales numbers and popularity. Halo took FOREVER to drop below $50 and I reckon it'll take a loong time for Mario Kart: DD to do the same. I'd suspect given the bundle, the used price will drop faster than the new. If you can still make 50, why settle for 30?

But.. Will it come with a Memory Card? That is the question. Without that, it's still work for the parents.

Well, if you buy it from Walmart, then it might, as some Walmarts are giving away memory card 251s with the GCN systems.

I think it has already hit the one million mark. I think the game is like the second or third best selling game on the cube. Actually I am pretty sure it's 1.4 million to this date. So YES, it has hit player's choice status, which is one million sold. But hasn't been lower yet, the price I mean.
The game was just released last year and is selling great so it would be stupid for Nintendo to lower the price when it's still selling great at $50. (I mean unless they want to lose money, that's the only way that will happen)
Anyways, cough up that $50 for it, you cheapskate. You of course know how awesome that game is!! GO GET IT NOW!! :)

No it's not.

Yes, it is. ;)
If the game hits One Million sold, it's eligable for Players Choice.
However, another mark of Players Choice is a price cut. Nintendo sees no reason to cut the price of this game since it's selling so well.

If that's true, it's recent -- I recall seeing some N64 games go Players Choice in less then a year. :/
The only way Nintendo ever lowers their game prices is through the Player's Choice series.
Heck, I think Mario 64 still costs 49.99. :P

I would spend the extra $50 on the bundle and get another cube.
You might be able to trade the extra cube to cover the costs.

When is Nintendo going to create a bundle that will appeal to those who don't already have a GameCube? I'm sure there are a few people out there who have held off for a GameCube with Mario Kart... but mot many. I don't think this bundle will do terribly well. The only people interested that I've spoken to are people like me who already have one.

I wouldn't care as I would want component video output :hmm:

Metroid and Mario Kart. Seem like winners to me seeing as they're mainly what Nintendo has.

Yeah, it wasn't a great price, but the fact that N64 carts were costly to produce probably had something to do with that.
I heard a rumor about this about a month or so back, and it's nice that it turned out to be true. Mario Kart DD is a fun game.

Then you shouldn't be getting a gamecube, since even with an older model, you'll have to blow a games worth of money to get the cables to use on the 5 games that support it.
Anyways... My kids are getting agamecube for xmas (I already have one) and pikmin 2, and mario kart DD are high on the list of games they need to get with it, so this is good news for me :)
Well I am glad I waited this long to get the "Cube". I was just going to get the Bundle that came with the Metroid 2 demo...but now, I think you know what I am getting LOL

the funny thing is that you guys are talking about mario kart going pc. i was waiting for smash bros to go pc so that i could get it for 19.99, but they tricked me and it only went to 29.99. this is why i buy games used :)

No. I didn't say PROGRESSIVE SCAN. LOL I want better luma/chroma separation..... Y-Cr-Cb (I think this is how it it is...not sure) is better than just Y-C. Same idea behind it as composite VS coaxial RF.....

Even worse, really. I figured you just needed to see metroid in HD.
The difference between s-video cables and component cables is virtually negligible if you ignore high def.

I notice a difference when using both on my DVD player...
I plan on getting a HDTV in a year or two.

Guys, you're wrong.
Only a handful of Nintendo's first party GC releases have even topped 1 million in sales.
Games like Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 and many others in the Players Choice lineup have most definately not topped 1 million in sales.

Take this for example from a recent IGN article.
"Super Mario Sunshine, Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Metroid Prime, Mario Kart: Double Dash, and Super Smash Bros.: Melee represent the direct continuations of Nintendo's largest and most profitable franchises and are five of the best selling titles on the GameCube. One might even venture to say that they are the five best selling games for the Cube and, without hesitation, I would back that assumption. They are also likely to be the only games on the system (by any publisher) to sell over a million units in the United States."
Unless we're counting worldwide sales here, I rest my case.

Then stores need to lower MK:DD to $20 because it's still $40 everywhere and I don't want to pay that. LOL Does that game have to be played two player or can it be played solo like the previous games.

Maybe they're right actually, but it has be worldwide sales being counted.
I was thinking it went by region, which doesn't make much sense now that I'm thinking about it.

I know I'm reviving a thread that has been dead for years, but I stumbled across this thread just now after doing a search for something else, and still thought I was correct.
After doing a few minutes of research, I easily found mentions of the correct criteria for becoming a Player's Choice title during this time period (Both before and after this thread discussion). It was 250,000 copies sold. Here is one such article from months before this thread ever took place.
I just knew there wasn't anyway that titles like Rampage were selling more than a million copies.
http://games.ign.com/articles/453/453311p1.html
So from November 2002, a full two years prior to this discussion, here's the real numbers.
"The Nintendo GameCube version of Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance sold 250,000 units, which qualified it for the Player's Choice standard. "
