eBay Going After Shill Bidders

good. shill bidding is a horrible thing. I would kick the shit out of someone over the internet if i found out they were doing it to me. thankfully it has never happened.

anyone here ever been suspicious about an auction you were bidding on?

Glad they're doing it, but the cases where you can actually shill bid for a substantial amount of profit on video games is pretty darn small. There's probably a large number of cases, and they definitely should add up (perhaps $20/auction over the course of some auctions?) but it's not high profile enough that eBay's gonna take action against it :/

I blame ebay. They make it so easy to set up multiple screen names. All you need is a email address and you can set up a bidding account. Free email address are plentiful on the net, so you could easily get one, set up a ebay bidding account and bid on your own items.

I think a CC should be necessary to do anything on eBay. That way ebay could check up on who people really are. The card would have to have a real name and address on it. So they could check CC names with ebay screen names and weed out the multiple accounts. When will they ever learn?

I'm pretty sure you NEED a credit card to set up a bidder account now. Ebay hs made it so you either need to use a payed email provider or have a credit card. Hotmail, Juno, and a bunch of other email addresses don't work for setting up accounts anymore.

Even if you needed a credit card to set up an account, there are plenty of people out there with more than one credit card. I think you'd have to take people's social security numbers here in the US to stop shill bidding, and even then who knows.

Well it's about damn time! And they need to go after ALL the shill bidders! Regardless of whether they're bigtime or smalltime, they're still CROOKS, and they need to be punished! I've had tons of auctions that I've bid on that seemed to have some shill bidding going on in them. And I still believe that skiier_addict is an ebay employee whose sole purpose is to inflate the prices of sealed SNES auctions. But that's just one example. There are many others.

I had it happen to me a couple of times. On one occasion, all the top bidders cancelled their bids leaving the zero feedback bid bumper as the high. I also reported ebay about it. The seller pulled the auction before ebay cancelled it and I then shot a low-ball offer to the seller which was accepted. The item: NTSC M-82 - November 2003. I sold it this summer to help pay for a house and I miss it already.

Shit that's almost like murder, i can understand though if you need money you need money!I'm getting one very soon.
I gladly never had shit like this, i totlally agree with the fine their getting, then finally they will learn to stay honest.
