I am considering purchasing the unit in the near future. I am so sick and tired of hearing "it sucks" or "PSP and DS will kill it". I just want to know from the folks who do own it about what they like/dislike. It seems pretty cool, and the fact that Mame has been ported to it makes me think about it even more. Also, I do not have a cell phone either, so this feature will be welcome as well. What do the owners think?

uhm, sorry, but the gba already killed it.

and i didn't liked it, but i have one. You know, portable gaming whore.

Yeah, I love portable gaming myself. Maybe I'll hold out until I can actually play one in person. I think I am mainly attracted to zapping emulators to it, but then again, I can do this with many devices.

I own one. I can't really think of any factors that make it worthwhile though... although the fact that MAME has been ported to it is news to me.

The demos I've played were not fun, at all. I'd hold out unless you'r going to get a cell phone anyways in that case might as well get it then.

Indeed it has:

Actually, there are a few emulators for the console, including a NES emulator, although I can't remember the link offhand. If you get the chance to try Mame on it, post your results!

Been using MAME on the Ngage for a while. All of the official titles are pretty terrible, so MAME is all I play with it. It won't play many of the newer arcade titles, but any vertical monitor game plays perfectly on this machine. Pac-man, Zaxxon, DK, DKjr. all arcade perfect, and I can take them with me. If you can get an Ngage from gamestop they are $59 used. Pretty good phone I might add, it's based on the high end nokia phones, and can use all the features of them. I would certainly NOT recommend it if you want to play Ngage games, but all the other features (Mp3, radio, calculator, scheduler) make the $59.00 a good deal.

That is exactly what I would have said. I prefer the N-Taco over the QD, but I understand that you can get the MP3 player on the QD too, so it's up to you wether you want to be side-talkin' or not. I like being different.

I recently acquired an N-Gage so I'm going to have to try this out. Is it as simple as filling a smartmedia card up with roms and the N-Gage MAME emulator? Any pitfalls to watch out for? How big a card are you using?

a card from 128mb to 256mb is recommended...
its as simple as dragging files from 1 folder to another basically (apart from a few)
here is where u want to go for emulators

A bit high on yourself I may ask? How do you know someone here didn't help develop the OS?

Anyway, you may also want to pick up a program such as fexplore from www.gosymbian.com It makes navigating the system on the go much easier.

Oh, and if you want to watch movies and/or tv shows on it let me know, I can show you how to set that up too (not real high quality and only 15 fps, but it can be done fairly easily). It's a pretty cool little device all in all.

If they did, they'd probably be too ashamed to admit having anything to do with the development of the system.

Unless you mean you. I couldn't tell.

59 bucks makes the NGage VERY attractive all of a sudden.

How recent a game can it emulate? Would it chug on a Jamma SHMUP from 1987 or 1990?

If price or a phone isn't an issue, then go with the Tapwave Zodiac or a GP32.

They both do Emulation, Movies, MP3 , a lot better.
