VVG/OCG-RPS Tournament of Champions
The Idea
Viking Video Games and OPCODE Games are teaming up to present the largest ColecoVision giveaway contest in over 20 years. The prizes are as follows:
Grand Prize Winner will receive:
1- Modded and refurbished Coleco ColecoVision 2400 game console complete with 2 refurbished standard controllers, 1 power supply, and 1 gold-plated A/V Cable. The modifications include gold-plated, color-coded, composite A/V outputs jacks, and an “Intro Skip” BIOS upgrade. The new A/V outputs allow the user to hook-up the ColecoVision game console to modern television sets and home theater systems without the use of an adapter. The “Intro Skip” BIOS upgrade allows the user to skip the 10-12 second Title Screen on Coleco-published games simply, with a press of a button.
1- “Ping Pong” ColecoVision game cartridge (cartridge only (not available for sale)).
1- Fully playable demo ColecoVision game cartridge of “Pac-Man” from the highly anticipated “Pac-Man Collection” (cartridge only).
1- Winners choice of “Sky Jaguar” or “Space Invaders Collection” ColecoVision game cartridge (each complete with box and manual).
Second Place Winner will receive:
1- “Ping Pong” ColecoVision game cartridge (cartridge only (not available for sale)).
1 – Winners choice of “Sky Jaguar” or Space Invaders Collection” ColecoVision game cartridge (each complete with box and manual).
1- Refurbished SPECTRAVIDEO SV-103 QuickShot III Joystick Controller for the ColecoVision (joystick only).
Third Place Winner will receive:
1- “Ping Pong” ColecoVision game cartridge (cartridge only (not available for sale)).
The Contest
The contest will be in the spirit of the ancient game of “Roshambo” (Rock, Paper, Scissors). Entrants will be matched up in head-to-head competitions, in a series of “best-of” rounds. Each player will submit their set of 5 throws for each round in an attempt to win the most of five games. The winner will then be advanced to the next round of tournament play and the loser will be eliminated. In the event of a tie, the players will be notified, and required to submit a new set of throws for that round. Once players reach the semi-final round the tournament heats up. The semi-final round will be a “best-of-7” series, with the winners advancing to the finals. In the final round the two combatants will submit their throws for a “best-of-9” final match.
The Rules
All players will have one week from the start of the contest to register at OPCODE Games and submit their name, address, and e-mail address for entry into the tournament. Entries will be accepted from 8:00 AM EST Monday 11/08/2004 through 11:59 PM Sunday 11/14/2004. Once officially entered, they will be assigned a password and all throws will be submitted through Private Mail at OPCODE Games.com. In the first round, players will be randomly drawn to determine their spot in the tournament and who they will be playing against. In the event of an odd number of contestants, some players will randomly be awarded a “bye” round and an automatic win for the opening round. When all contestants are notified of their entry status, they will submit their set of 5 throws for that round. The winners will be notified and will advance onto the next round where they will have 3 days to submit their set of throws for the next round. Tournament play will continue like this until the semi-final round where players will submit their set of 7 throws, and the final round where players will submit their set of 9 throws. In the event of a tie in any round the contestants will be notified and will have 2 days to submit a new set of throws for that round. If a player fails to submit a set of throws for either a round or a tie-breaker within the allotted time frame he/she will forfeit that round and their opponent will advance onto the next round.
The Game
The game Roshambo is an ancient yet simple game in which each player “throws” a sign for either “Rock,” “Paper.” or “Scissors” in an attempt to best their opponent. While each sign is powerful, each has its weakness:
Rock crushes Scissors, but can be covered by Paper
(Rock beats Scissors, but loses to Paper)
Paper covers Rock, but can be cut by Scissors
(Paper beats Rock, but loses to Scissors)
Scissors cut Paper, but can be crushed by Rock
(Scissors beat Paper, but lose to Rock)
In the event of each player throwing the same sign in a game, during a round, the result is called a “Stalemate” and no player is awarded a point for that game.
Contestants submit their set of throws in the order in which they wish to play them, and the winner is determined by whoever wins the most throws for that round.
Example:
Player 1 – Rock, Rock, Paper, Scissors, Paper
Player 2 – Rock, Scissors, Rock, Paper, Scissors.
Throw 1: Stalemate
Throw 2: Player 1 – Rock crushes Scissors
Throw 3: Player 1 – Paper covers Rock
Throw 4: Player 1 – Scissors cut Paper
Throw 5: Player 2 – Scissors cut Paper
Player 1 wins 3-1 and advances to the next round!
Terms and Agreement
Contestants must be 18 years or over. Only one entry per person. Employees of Viking Video Games, OPCODE Games, and/or its subsidiaries, affiliates, advertising, promotion and fulfillment agencies and members of their immediate families or those with whom they are domiciled are not eligible to enter.

Hi!
Some people here are experiencing technical issues while trying to register at OPCODE Games, so from now on just email Eduardo at eduardo@opcodegames.com
If you already sent him a private message, it's ok, no need to send another email. Please check OPCODE Games in a day or two for a complete list of all registered people.

Maybe I'm being too dense, but I don't get it. We just need to play Rock, Paper, Scissors, via email, basically?
I assume there's some catch I'm missing somewhere?

Submitting an entry into a contest is the equivalent of signing a contract stating that you are responsible to pay any federal, state, or local taxes pertaining to contest winnings. People under 18 cannont legally enter into contractual obligations.

No that's pretty much it. We tried to come up with a contest idea that wasn't the same boring old ideas:
Write an essay about how you love video games - too subjective to the judges opinions.
Trivia Question - Too much information on the internet
Rock, Paper, Scissors - Simple, and everybody can play.

Unless your under 18
Im going to just have someone enter for me. LOL
I wouldn't win either way. Good luck to all.

A few days ago I sent you an email to enter this (I think it was over the weekend), and haven't heard back. Should I have?
If it helps, when I get home I'll try to look up the exact email address I sent from, the date/time, etc...
