Ok got a new copy of Xenosaga Ep 1 like previously mentioned. Came home to test make sure it worked and so I could least continue my game where I lef toff back earlier this year.

Went to Continue and read Mem card slot 1 and took me back to the title screen. Ok, no matter went to the menu to check the card if I accident deleted the save game file one time. Tells me the mem card is unformatted and do I want to format it now...

Popped in Vice City and read the memory card, everything wa son there thankfully and loaded VC up to where I left off. No issues and popped Xenosaga back in to try again. Same thing.

Anyone have any ideas? I have a Mad Catz PS2 memory card, which I had aquired when my friend initially gave me the PS2 and have had no isses with it before this or with any games like this (that I can remember).

boot up your system without any game and check out the memory manager, if anything copy the files to another memory card and try booting with it.

moral of the story?

dont use 3rd party memory cards

tried it, no luck. I am NOT restarting my game after spending all that time just because of something stupid like this. I was somewher ein the Cathedral Ship (I dunno where excatly now, last time I played was Janurary actually), went through a door to another area. Screen went black and nothing, no loading sounds, no nothing.

I wan tto be able to play again.

agreed. i once lost about 6 hours in a game of chrono cross, not a big deal really, but i had only had the card for about a week. no third party mem cards for me...ever again.

on a side note, was xenosage (either of ones you owned) the greatest hits versions? they are usually not compatible.

Non-Greatest Hits version.

Got it working, likely gonna buy a real PS2 memory card later, copy the data from the Ass Catz and use it for backup.

There ARE some genuine 1st party PS2 memory cards that need formatting before you use them. Check the packaging before you buy. The ones with Japanese text on the back of the yellow packaging card DO need formatting first.
