Dracula X is a fairly tough game, much harder than Super Castlevania IV. The Phantom Bat boss is a pain in the ass, but I usually beat him using item crashes with the dagger equipped. Sometimes it can be tricky jumping over the little bats that reform him though (you can hit him as he is reforming by the way). If you get cornered you're screwed. X_x

Ok here's what you should do, this one takes timing
the Back flip (Jump button twice) comes in handy alot
You can still inflict damage by using the Crossbow (Time it when it goes forward and back, you can land two hits this way) when he splits up into smaller bats.
Key is, stay low and conserve enegry...sometimes you will have to take a hit to land a hit. I didn't like the design of this boss's room. Yet there is a way

Dracula X for SNES is ridiculous. I can hardly stand it. The game should be a lot better than it actually is, but mostly it's just a pain in the ass with the Castlevania name stickered on it.

Heh I loved it (not as much as the duo one) I think their is some really easy patterns the only thing that pissed me off was dracula at the end.

The SNES one is ass IMO. All the nice tight control of the PCE version is completely gone...leaving you with a nasty controlling game with the same difficulty as the nicer version....hence the challenge. Feh.

Ok Im gonna say this once and for all
PCE Verison Vs. SNES Verison...bottom line
the SNES Verison has a better remix of the original BGM in my honest opinion compared to the PCE
Yet PCE verison over rules from sweetass gameplay...tell me you didnt go "Sweet Ass!!" when Death Appeared over the pirate ship during a full moon?!? Because it WAS!!

Aye, SGnG, I agree with all of that. The SNES music is much "cleaner" than the crazy'd up stuff on the PC-E Super CD-ROM^2 release...and getting to the ghost ship is one of my favorite gaming memories :)
I used to have a ZSNES movie of myself going through the section with bouncing mermen and falling columns doing backflips the WHOLE way...think I pegged every enemy as well except one that shows up at the end (which I could've gotten had I tried, lol). Need to do that again, too bad I don't like ZSnes :(
I also had a movie of myself doing crazy shit with the control in the first area of the game. The SNES version seems to control the same (with the exception of being able to hit enemies coming up behind you with the whip attack...can be handy against zombies), but the screen resolution of the SNES is different so it seems different. What's more, while they avoided certain control problems by putting platforms high enough in the PC-Engine game, for some unknown reason they decided to put one in the first area low enough that you can jump into it and you'll momentarily pause as the game decides not to let you onto the next level...even though your feet show there...pretty bad. As a result the SNES game has all sorts of what I call "movement glitches."

I am really confused reading this... I really like the SNES Castlevania X, but it's insanely easy to get through. Don't get me wrong, I die, but I sat down with it just the other day without having played it in years, and I was at the end in no time. Just continue a few times and it's no problem. All you need to know is:
1) use special weapons constantly
2) push jump twice to backflip. The backflip also can get you to higher ledges sometimes
If you're familair with the series it should be a decent workout but definitely nothing at all compared to part one or three.
The PCE version has a lot more cheap stuff going on in the level design, so I don't enjoy it as much. Neither game should pose a long-term challenge...

I love Dracula X for SNES. It's one of the best CV's ever IMO. I can get up to level 5...and then I get stuck. :/ I also think it's got one of the best Soundtracks ever. The 1st level music is nothing short of amazing, and levels 2 and 3 have great renditions of Vampire Killer and Bloody tears.
NOTE: 1000 posts!!! Holy crap. @_@

GG @ 1000 posts.
By the way, I think you'll really like Dracula X SNES's secret level. No spoilers here - it was great fun to come across and is yet another section of the game that's Bloodlines-inspired, but in a good way.

In Level 3, Don't fall off the pillars because you'll end up
going to the catacombs and have to fight the Cloaked Sorceror Boss. @_@
In Level 3, If you make it past the pillars. You have to fight the
Headless Knight Dullaron. Don't die because you have to keep
the key to rescue Maria and Annette. Maria is on the top right door
and then after that you'll go to another room with two choice's.
either head left or choose the top right door to unlock the door
if you still have the key because Annette is in that water area Level. 8-)
If you are in a room filled with water, Just break the pillar to drain
the water to save Annette at the bottom right and break the
secret wall where a room is hidden with Annette being held captive
to save her. That way you get the better ending. :)
The first time through Dracula X, I got the bad ending because i
didn't save Maria and Annette. :(
Try it out sometime. 8-)

Rescuing Annette also gets you to fight Death instead of having to fight a possesed Annette.

This game simply doesn't get enough love. I refuse to compare it to Akumajo Dracula X: Chi no Rondo... they're not the same game to me. Sure, the second SNES title borrows heavily from the first and only PC Engine title, but the stages are different, the paths are different, and it just feels like a different game altogether. Different, different, different.
... different. LOL
Anyway, many call this one of the weaker installments in the whole Castlevania chronology, but it's actually one of my more favored games. Hey, it's better than Castlevania Adventure, that's for sure. But pertaining to the topic at hand: I do consider this one of the harder games in the series. I do agree that somewhat stiff controls contribute to that, but generally, I owe its challenge to the enemies. Those freaking Spear Knights just piss me off, wielding their weapons like they're samurais... and there are indeed quite a few pitfalls to "fall" victim to. Yes, that was an intentional pun, kill me now.
And Dracula... holy freaking crap. I'd say that Drac's incarnation for this particular edition of CV is a contender for "Hardest Dracula Battle," and maybe even for "Hardest Boss Ever." It's not so much Dracula himself that's the threat, but some retarded programmer decided to really make pro gamers sweat and have the battle take place on FREAKING PILLARS WITH GAPS BETWEEN THEM. That, and the pillars are at different elevations, so this gives Drac an advantage with his fireballs... and if you don't hit him fast enough in his second form, you are screwed, plain and simple. I recommend using the Axe, as it can easily reach him.
Better stop this now, you don't want to hear anymore of my Castlevania borax. :P

Hardest Dracula battle ever? I call it a good challenge. Remember the Dracula battle in Castlevania 3? It's do able, just takes some time. SNES Dracula X resembles the old school Castlevania to me. That's what I like about it.

Castlevania II's Dracula battle...OMFG HARD BATTEL!!11

Dracula at the end of Castlevania II is hella! easy
if you get the golden dagger's and attack him, then
he dies really fast. But without the golden dagger's,
it gets hard to beat. 8-)
Dracula is really freaking hard on Castlevania Bloodlines
though. O_O
I like Super Castlevania IV Because you can hit in eight
direction's with Simon's whip and also swing on hooks
with his whip as well. Every Castlevania should have
eight ways and to swing across pits. 8-)
Dracula X should have that feature if Konami decide's to
bring out a complete collection on the PS2 someday. 8-)
The complete collection will have, 8-)
Castlevania Lament of Innocence
Haunted Castle ( A Castlevania game )
Castlevania
Castlevania Chronicles
Castlevania II
Castlevania III
Super Castlevania IV
Dracula X Rondo of Blood
Castlevania Dracula X
Castlevania Symphony of the Night
Castlevania Bloodlines
Castlevania 64
Castlevania Legacy of Darkness
That's all i can think of. hehe 8-)
