WOOT!

Funny that the US get MGS3 a month before Japan does. How often does that happen?

I want a Snake-hiding-in-a-box smiley. :)

Well, we got MGS2 before Japan as well. It's mainly because Kojima is 'rewarding' us for supporting MGS so much. We absolutely loved MGS over here in the states, even moreso than the Japanese, so he gave us the first release date. And now, the same with MGS3.

I love Kojima. And I love the news of MGS4.

What sucks about that is the Japanese always get a bonus dvd or something extra. Why don't we get collector editions? Kojima can suck it until we get a cool bonus.

Great news! I'm not a big metal gear fan (I just don't like stealth) but It's my brother's favorite game series ever. Huzzah!

Ok for those who don't know,

Metal Gear Solid is the last game written and directed by Hideo Kojima.

Great news. I haven't fully played through MGS2 yeat, but the first was great and I plan on getting 3 around Christmas. Though if 4 comes out on a next gen system it will be a while before I get it because I'm not buying another $300 piece of Sony hardware

I wonder in 2027, will there be a Metal Gear Solid 8?

Why is this series loved so much? The games are really short. The plot is pure
cliche and melodrama. And the cutscenes go on far too long. There are
better stealth games out there. If GTA SA or Halo 2 were as short as the
average MGS game people would be crying bloody murder!

Er, "average" MGS game? There's only been 2. That's an awful few to get an average from. The first was indeed very short, but the second was about the usual for a non-RPG. I'm hoping MGS will be longer, just cause the more MGS the better :)

You've got a point about the cliches, though. I mean, if I have to play one more game with an undead cyborg ninja or a bisexual Romanian knife-throwing vampire or a plot about an AI learning how to program humans... x_x

MGS was short? I put in some serious time on that....and then did it all over again when the updated version for the GC came out. ;)

But I'll pick up MGS3 on opening day.

Never tried any of them, but would like to one day. The reason the US gets the release first is the same reason they get the release first for some other games (Metroid Prime comes to mind). It sells more in the US... as one would expect, w/ the content and style.

MGS was short?

If you go straight through, I've heard it can be beaten in around 5 hours. I never did it that way, though. I always took the more roundabout ways. And it certainly has replay value.

It's really no wonder that games like MGS, Metroid, and Contra have always done better in the States. The games are more in line with American gaming tastes. Which is too bad, because all of those are wonderfull games. I think more Japanese would enjoy more American games if they had the chance to play them, but some are hard to get (so I've been told) and there are more games to pick from in Japan.
