DP Members by State?

I was wondering if we have a list of regular DP members -- traders, collectors, etc. -- organized by large cities and the state they live in.

It would help to know, for example, who else lives here in RI by just doing a look at a list or a thread.

Ah, see, I actually KNEW of that list. :)

But I'm not a collector, and I don't have a a unqiue game (don't have anything besides the current systems) so I never saw myself as being eligable for that list.

We need a member database that rivals the online rarity guide.
Besides tracking geographic location it could also be personal collection database that we could use to log our collections and show other useful bits of info such as how many members own title X or added/subtracted X amount of games to their collection on any given month.

I think how it breaks down is that 50% of the forum members here are from Michigan and the other 50% are spread out over the rest of the country.

It might be do-able (we could pull the location field from everyone's profile) but most members don't put a real location in that field, so I'm not sure how we'd get at it.

Incidentally, if you're a collector (old or new systems) you should be on that llist linked above - there are a number of gamers who have "all zeroes", and that's quite OK :)

That's funny, I was just thinking about this idea a week or two ago.

What I do is I mark on a big map all the locations of people that I've done deals with on this board. It's interesting to see where part of your collection ends up. So far, I've noticed a lot of people seem to living on the east coast.


Seriously though, there is an unusually high number of people from MI here.

Judging by the list, there also seems to be a high percentage of people from Ohio.

I agree with the map and location guide. The collector's list, in the format it's in, is hard to read. If each name were to link to an individual user's profile. The profile could contain numbers of games or have links to IGN or other collecting sites. A map would also be cool, but I would imagine it would be harder to maintain.

I too think we would benefit from more info on the members. I'm not in the database (partly because I haven't got around to counting stuff), the format seems a little ackward (non-browser freindly)--could it be made into a PDF? In any event, I would get behind any effort to create a more comprehensive member information section. Of course paranthetically I should mention the people here at DP do a great job, I don't want to sound like I'm complaining. :)

I've only been in San Fran once, but I remember going down to Fisherman's Warf with a friend and scouring some nice games from a shop there. of course, this was 1995 so it's probaly long gone by now. ;)

I still have my special limited edition ST TNG board game, though -- paid to have that baby shipped back east. ;)

Glad to know others here were thinking along the same lines as I was. Some kind of easier online list would be great to use. For example, if I'm looking for a game that is on sale at one shop that is a Western chain, I could locate one on their website, find a board member who lives theres, and ask them polietly if they could help me out. I'm sure there could be a hundred other ways to use the list.

And there used to be a web app that had a similar approach with a global map that was community based. I remember seeing it featured on tech tv ages ago. GAWD I wish I could remember the name of that thing and the URL! I remember it being pretty cool and fairly feature rich. GAH!

I need to get off my ass and count all my games again and get on that list! I know I'm one of the few members of the 1000+ club, and I'm definitely in the top 10 Genesis collectors here, with around 500 Genesis games, so I'm really slacking off by not getting everything counted, and getting on that list!

And I totally support the online collector's database idea! That list is very hard to read, and it does need to be redone in the PDF format for sure!

Anyhow, as indicated in my profile to the left, I'm located in Houston, Texas, the 4th largest city in the nation! So if you're really having alot of trouble finding a certain domestic game, I just might be able to find a copy for you! Please keep in mind that I don't have a car though, so my mobility is limited!

I think it totally sucks that EB & Gamestop stopped dealing in most retro games too! That really made it alot harder to find alot of stuff here now!
