After a month or so of getting nothing at my regular DD location, I came across this last night. Crap from 2 (or 3) of the biggest games out (this week at least). I thought I was pretty sweet... 1 GTA Standup, 4 GTA Medium Boxes, 2 Everquest Large Boxes & 2 Halo 2 Signs:

Very nice :)
Mind if I ask a question? When you Dive, do you take any "equipment"? Gloves, Flashlight ect?
:embarrassed: Just wondering.

I go at night, so I bring a flashlight. No gloves though... if it isnt on the top of the trash I don't go digging. This standup was actually next to a very full dumpster last night. Its back was to me and I almost missed it because I thought it was a cardboard box. Funny thing was that it had a guy's name & number on a post-it stuck to the back. I guess they promised it to him, but trashed it anyway. Maybe I should call him and brag.

Did you ever think about just getting chummy with the people who work at the video game store? Then they would just give you this stuff when they were done with it instead of chucking it.

Thats the way I do it ;) Other stores besides the GameStop I have friends at know I am the "retro" guy who collects. So if I come in and ask for something they dont give me a strange look. If something isnt taken then I will put my name and number on it. I also check to see when they are supposed to throw it away so I can make sure I go get it before they do so.
I am sure the one you got was probably because they want the thing gone and they didnt want to wait forever for this guy to pick it up. I always get my stuff as soon as they are getting rid of it. That way they know I wont leave them hanging with stuff that is cluttering the floor space.

Working at a video game store, and it has it's perks too. Fable, Halo 2, GTA:SA, Metroid Prime 2, Paper Mario, Syphon Filter 3, Growlanser: Generations, Chronicles of Riddick, Mario vs. DK....just to name a few. Not to mention all the sweet t-shirts we get.

so uh, since you have 4 of them, you looking to get rid of any of those gta:sa large boxes? I could use some memoribilia, as i don't have much at all.

Sweet!!!...
LOL
I have literally STACKS of sealed unopened Capcom shirts from my days in the biz. 4 years worth of Capcom gaming all archived on cotton. LOL
The only other cool thing that I had sense to acquire was a big plug-in neon Sonic The Hedgehog sign from Sega. They'll have to bury me with that baby.

Nice finds in good shape. We throw that kind of stuff out weekly. I take what I like and dive for demo and kiosk discs that find their way into the trash before taking it to the dumpster. You do get some good stuff working for stores. People were sweating our Halo 2 lanyards at the midnight release.

All I ever get is whatever my store gets in. And even then I have to be careful The Nintendo Rep installs the stuff ant takes it back at the end. If stuff disappears all the time, she stops bringing it as I've noticed with the posters we used to get. Haven't seen a poster since Mario vs. DK.
The Sony rep on the other hand doesn't notice and when she comes, if I'm lucky enough to be there, she gives me free promo stuff.
Microsoft on the other hand doesn't give a crap. Our Xbox controller has been broken forever. And the demo kiosk is so bad. It's sad. I haven't seen a replacement Demo disc in months.
Problem is the kiosk is a lousy Kmart all-in-one unit. Not luck enough to get separate ones. I really wish I worked as a rep. It would be my dream job. (I got offered a job before I got my license back in 1998 to be a delivery truck driver for Nintendo. Damn me and my lack of a license.)
