I just saw the price article from the link on the front page.
Xbox live arcade is what I've been waiting for.
Unfortunately at a price point of $9.99, it's just not. I can get 20 games on Midway Classics for $19.99 with a package/DVD. Why do I have to pay half that for one crummy game to play online or $14.99 for 3 games?
I bet they aren't even doing competitive picture in picture or split screen like they should be doing, either. At $50 a year, Xbox live ain't cheap, and it should come with the arcade. I'm up for renewal and I can barely justify the cost, aside from keeping my username sacrosanct.

I agree wholeheartedly. You'd think that they would realize that most of the same product is available already on compilations for a low price. And the 'You can play online with friends' crap is just that: crap. It doesn't justify the price. I want the disc itself--but I won't be paying the exorbitant amount for the games.
A free bundle/tie-in for Live subscribers would make more sense.

I think they'll get the hardcore Xbox Live-rs out of the way first, then drop it to a more reasonable price. There's no way I'm paying it.

Yeah that's crazy for arcade. Ten bucks a month just to play classic games that you can get in compileation disks (or for free if using MAME) @_@

Though I have to say that $50 for a year isn't too bad since it allows you to play all the games. If you're on a comp you have to pay like $10-15 per game/service per month. Xbox live, if you buy the one year cards is only $4.17 per month.

Yeah, I think it's too much also. Couldn't they just have it so you could download the games for a few bucks a pop?

On a related note, I wish they offered affordable Broadband in my area. :/

no kidding! It really makes you wonder when companies make "bonehead" moves like this, how much real gaming the "bigwigs" do before spending alot of money to promote stupid ideas such as this one. They must think that the public is really stupid......
I have Xbox live, I love it, but dang this was not a well thought out move.....

Word. No way I'm paying that much for this.

I think it's $10 per game for some games, $15 for a 3 pack of Dig Dug, Ms PAc and something else, I think. It's a one time charge, not a monthly addition.
Still, it's too much!
I'd be happy to see some scoreboard integration for Midway Arcade compilations on xbox live, even if you can't play online with friends.
These are projects that could be done with 10 folks working out emulation/modification for 20 games or more. I just don't see it as justifying the cost.
