View Full Version : Am I the only one who's never gone past the old b/w Gameboy?

I have two handheld systems-
The NGPC, and the original Gameboy (pocket version.) I don't count the Turbo Express as it's big and eats batteries like crazy.
The NGPC is great, but the library is small. That leave the GB.
I still find great games for it, and the battery life is awesome. I know that if I buy a GBC or GBA I'll go crazy buying games for it.
Yes, I'm stuck in the early 90's.
Anyone else?
:D

I like the original Game Boy. :) It is nice and large so it fits my hands (!), plus the screen is NOT as bad as many say it is IMO. Add to that, I actually enjoy the yellow/greenish tint it has, and when it's held to the light it glooowwssss :P Plus it looks neato; like an NES. I got mine around 1996 or 1997, just as the 'Pocket' version was coming out. I saw the smaller one, noticed it was too small, and had to hunt down any original styles that were still in stock. Eventually found one at Hills Department Store. I STILL do not like the 'Pocket' version though I actually like the Japanese 'Game Boy Light'.

I jumped from the original right to the SP, with no stops in between. I just had to have the NES SP 8-)

Well, I still play SOME B+W GB games, in fact, I'm trying to sell Great Greed and Monster Rancher Battle Card for color. PM me if interested.
Anyway, I like to play:
Bionic Commando (Color)
Elevator Action (Great version)
Dragon Warrior III (Color)
I use my SP.

I don't play enough gameboy to warrant buying another version of the Gameboy. I only have like 5 games for the thing and i cannot remember the last time i played it.
I have no desire to upgrade to an Advance or an SP because they both have design problems that render them unbuyable (also i dont care for thier game library)
So yup, i still gots me orginal GB.
Now i just need to get "Super Mario Land 2" again.

Original Gameboy is still the best Gameboy as far as I'm concerned. But I must admit that once I got a GBC I definitely preferred that sharper screen. Even though it was a color I mostly played my B&W games on it.
The only reason I bought a GBA was because I preferred the horizontal orientation of the machine to the vertical. 80% of my Gameboy titles are either black and white or back-compatible to black and white (e.g. - Metal Walker). There are only a few GBC titles I really enjoy like the Zelda titles and Warlocked (this is a must have). And I have very little interest in GBA titles. Nope. For me it's black and green forever!

The only game console I have ever officially owned was my old B&W Game Boy. I had the white original, but when the D-pad wore out I replaced it with a clear-shell Play It Loud B&W model.
I still have it (and it is in fact not far from me as I type) but I have not played it in a good long time, sadly.

I have the original grey model, the Pokemon Gold/Silver Color version, a Platinum SP and a Super GameBoy. Sitting on the couch tonight, I saw a commercial for the Nintendo DS, and casually looked over at my girlfriend and saw her shaking her head no.
Maybe next year (I don't mind, especially since I didn't even get a GBA until last Christmas.... From her).
I still don't even have that many games. I only have 13 GameBoy/GameBoy Color games and 3 GBA games. I'm in no rush for the new one. I only really use my handhelds in two places: The bathroom, and the bathroom at WORK!!!
