I'm a nut for the original super mario land. I think it's my favorite mario game of all time. I'm not saying that it's the best one, but it is the only one that I could play over and over and over and over and...

I've played a bit of Mr. Chin's Gourmet Paradise...the Japanese version but I recognized the name at once. Well, it's a very easy game, and I wouldn't call it one of the best titles...but not bad. I just don't see the appeal to it...bounce around, turn the little walking critters into little walking treats...try to bounce your head into all the blocks to uncover powerups and get points...yup :/
My votes go to Ninja Gaiden Shadow and Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge. Great games right there! I also like The Castlevania Adventure, but it is very hard to play. There's some pretty sweet points in the game, though.

teenage mutant ninja turtles: fall of the foot clan.
a very excellent game. in fact, my fav gameboy game. it had mini games and multiple endings. it was an action platformer, but multiple endings, dude, when was the last time you heard of an old school gb game having that, and it had mini games.

Oh; Zen: Intergalactic Ninja looked pretty good. There's an NES game too, but it's got a rather goofy isometric perspective and forces you to go platforming within the first twenty seconds...a moving platform, at that; I haven't tried many times but I haven't passed it yet LOL

Agree with the rest, but everybody should know that Legends and Adventure - I'd say Legends in PARTICULAR, even though it's got music by Yamane (Doesn't much sound like it!) is one of the most horrible GB games I've played to date...

Black & White:
Nobunaga's Ambition - Totally fun handheld Koei goodness. Virutally unlimited replay value. Whip out that old link cable for 2-player fighting once you master the AI, which is not easy to do.
Color:
Warlocked: Gameboy's one and only real-time combat sim. If you like Command&Conquer type games this is for you. There's nothing that brings a Gameboy CPU to its knees faster than trying to move around 70+ individual combat units in real time.
Psycho Mantis

Mega Man 5
Castlevania Legends
Final Fantasy Legends 3
Gradius Instellar Assualt
Ninja Gaiden Shadow
Blaster Master Boy
Bomberman GB
Battle unit Zeoth
All are great games but my fav is ninja gaiden shadow.

Ack! Another vote for Legends!
I might as well mention that Japanese CV fan artist "Ky-Ra" released a patched ROM for Legends which makes the ingame artwork approximately 10,000 times better..!

Anyone ever beat F-1 Race? That game is really frustrating, and I gave up after not getting past the 4th or 5th race. I came so close it is disgusting. Like .01 of a second or some crap from being able to move onto the next race. I couldn't get that close again :(

Ehh... Adventure Island is vastly inferior to its sequel, Adventure Island 2.
In fact, I could say the same about TMNT, as the sequel has some of the best graphics on the B&W Game Boy, but it is lacking a bit of the original's charm. (Anyone play the third B&W TMNT game? It sounds pretty cool.)
Wario Blast was a cash grab meant to sell more copies of the original Game Boy Bomberman. (Actually, it's quite fitting that it's a cash grab, since it's about Wario.) The game known as Bomberman GB, which came out much later, seems like a much better purchase.
Anyway, something that hasn't already been mentioned: Kirby's Block Ball.
And what about Blaster Master: Enemy Below? Given the popularity of the original NES game, I'm surprised I don't hear about this one more often.

I too am fond of the Final Fantasy Legend and Adventure series. Especially Legend II and Adventure. It took me about a year to beat the two of them when I was something like 10 years old. I thoroughly enjoyed Legend III when I got it a year later, but thought II was much more challenging. Still wishing that Adventure II would have been made or released. I got Legend I when I was about 17 and beat it in about 2 days. I was definitely disappointed but didn't know if the game sucked or that I was too RPG-advanced by that point.

You are aware that Final Fantasy Adventure was known as Seiken Denetsu in Japan, and that its sequel, Seiken Denetsu 2, was known here as Secret of Mana... right?

Yeah, the whole FFA revolves around the 'Mana Tree' from what I remember...

Tetris is the only B&W game I go back to from time to time - for me it's still the best version of the game on any format, although I'm willing to listen if someone cares to suggest a version I might not have played yet. :)

Anyone mention Fortified Zone yet? Though not quite an A-lister among GameBoy titles, it's nonetheless an engaging maze-based shooter with two selectable characters, Fast Girl and Slow Guy. I like Fast Girl better.
Metal Gear Solid for the GBC is quite fun, even with the tiny, tiny character sprites. It also has delightfully cartoonish bosses with names like "Pyro Bison" and "Marionette Owl."
My hat goes off to Shantae for the GBC. Now if they would ever just release the GBA one. :/
Seconded on both counts.
