View Full Version : What Are The Best "U" & "Z" PS1 Game

I just got done writing up my collection of Playstation games...I'm about a half-dozen games short of 200. One thing I noticed is I had no game which starts with a "Z" in it's title...upon checking, I see I also have no "U" game. So I'm wondering what would be the best to get of each to fill out the collection so I can say I have PS1 games from A-Z.

"U" Games--I'm not positive but I think I may have seen a copy of Ultimate 8 Ball at my local EB Games so I may go back and check that soon. Other U games I see in the DP Guide include Ultimate Brain Games, Ultimate Fighting Championship, UmJammer Lammy, The Unholy War, Unknown Variable 1 & 2 (from Lightspan...not sure what those are like), Uprising X and Urban Chaos. Any thoughts? If I can't find Ultimate 8 Ball, I may look for UmJammer Lammy. I have the Dreamcast Ultimate Fighting Championship game (if it's the one I'm thinking of) and I'm not that crazy about it.

"Z" Games--Very small pickings to choose from here, just 3 titles: Zero Divide, Zooboomafoo: Leapin' Lemurs (no, I'm not making that title up...how could I?) and Zoop. I have Zoop for the Jaguar and the middle game sounds like it could be more for kids, so I guess Zero Divide wins by default...

UmJammer Lammy

Winner.

Very fun sequal to Parappa. I'd recommend it even if you weren't looking for a 'U'!

Thanks...that's definitely one I've considered getting. I really need advice on the "Z" games, though. I don't suppose any late "Z" games came out after the DP GUide went to press, were there? Probably not with my luck...

Zero Divide is a really bad early PSX fighting game. It isn't very fun at all, and it has absolutely terrible 3D polygonal graphics. Having said that, the other two 'Z' games don't sound that good either. :/

I'd say that Um Jammer Lammy and Zoop are your best choices here.

Leapin' Lemurs! LOL

Go import.

Zanax is a pretty fun shooter.

Zero Divide is a rather poor fighter, yes, but it contains Tiny Phalanx, a short, but excellent, update to Phalanx. Worth the $2 asking price for that alone.

I found a shot of the cover of that game...

...so you can see I didn't lie about it. It obviously is, as I expected, a kid's game. Since I have Zoop on the Jag, I may actually look for Zero Divide first for my "Z" title. I'm not sure but the Super Nintendo may be the only other system I can say I have all the letters of the alphabet represented...

Thanks, guys...I've now ordered UmJammer Lammy (the obvious favorite) and Zero Divide. Not much to choose from there in the Z's...and I didn't want to get an import title since I can't play those on my system...

Um Jammer Lammy ROCKS.

Makje sure to play all the way through... once you've done that you can play again.

As PaRappa.

With all new cut scenes.

Awesome.

Thanks, I'll do that...

This brings up a good question...

Would you rather have a good game you can't play, or Zero Divide? LOL

I...so you can see I didn't lie about it.

Sadly, I knew what Zoboomafoo was *before* you posted the screenshot, and knew right away it was a kids show.

("Where was I?" you might scream? Well, I'm a little slow, sorry :) ).

I love the idea by the way. I've considered doing something similar with music recently: ensuring I have at least one album released from my birth year (1971) to the present. Of course you end up with a lot more than 3 choices :)

you gotta get zoop. it was out for everything. it was probably even released for brain testing by putting the game into your brain through a microchip.

I know that you've already ordered UJLammy, but I just want to recommend The Unholy War as well. It's a strategy game with combat sequences, much like Archon was. Not a big surprise, since at least one of the Archon designers was behind The Unholy War as well.

While it's not perfect, it satisfies my occasional 32-bit Archon-style cravings.

I hear that Wrath Unleashed is another game (for the Xbox and PS2) in the same tradition. Has anybody here played it?

Zero Divide... Man, that game brings back some memories. I remember being so hyped up for it because of all the gorgeous shots in Diehard Gamefan magazine. It ended up being one of the two games I got for Christmas that year (I believe the other was Twisted Metal). Needless to say, I was pretty disappointed that year (and not because of Twisted Metal, believe me). The game looked SO good and ended up being SO bad.

Yes, if I'm going to get a game, I feel it has to be one I can actually play...even if it's bad. And just because I ordered UmJammer Lammy doesn't mean I'd refrain from getting another good "U" game so I may get The Unholy War if I come across it...
