Well, I moved to Manchester about 6 weeks ago when Uni started and ever since have been looking for ..well.. anywhere that sells classic video games. So far the best I've come up with is the rather poor showing at Gamestation in the Arndale Centre.

Anyhow, I'm sure I've seen at least one other member who had "Manchester" down as their location (though for the life of me I can't remember who) so I was wondering if they, or anyone else who knows the area, can help me in my quest to find a decent shop/market stall/whatever?

You're just going to have to buy it all from chaoticjelly :D

I think the reason that there isn't any is mainly because he's already bought it all!

I think Predator XS and gleavepaul are both in the North-West aswell, so they may be able to give you some more options (as long as they're not keeping the best ones secret, anyway! :) )

Nice to see a few other members from England! Round here (near Stoke), there are very few places to pick up retro stuff apart from in the local Gamestations. The local Forbidden Planet (which used to be Another World, which used to be Fantasy World...) has been slowly phasing out its retro stuff over the years, leaving overpriced Jap Saturn stuff as the oldest titles they carry. Hmph.

Oh ho ho!!

I've been rumbled... 8-)

Nah.. im not THAT near Manchester... about 50 miles away, but all retro stuff around here does generally gravitate in my direction..

Not gotten anything for AGES.. not been to car boots, markets etc for weeks.. most of my stuff has come from my secret source... Id love to get loads and loads.. but Im getting rid of a LOT lately...

Never been retro hunting in Manchester.. just went into Cash Generator once?? they had a load of sports games.. as usual...

Did get a bargain in Liverpool the other day... Sonic Drift (cart only) for the GameGear, £1.50 ! from Gamestation

You just gotta be eagle eyed. There's not a lot anywhere, to be honest. You just have to keep hitting the charity shops, and checking out any game stores.

IN London, everything just seems overprices .. but just to prove that you can even find deals in London, I picked up six sealed copies of Gunbird 2 for the Dreamcast for £2 each today, just off Oxford Street :D

I'm in Manchester, best places I've found

Cash Generator - Oldham £2 DC games had some good ones when I went 2 months ago, never been back.

Gamestation - Bolton, much better that the one in the Arndale, Bolton folk seem to be trading in some great SNES/MD stuff at the moment.

Chips - Chorlton Cum Hardy, Has a good DC section, some good games at reasonable prices also has a few decent MD & Saturn games.

My bro told me he had seen a shop in Afleks Palace selling old games stufff, but he could not tell me any more, have not checked this out yet.

As for Boot Sales, there is an indoor boot sale in Trafford Park, unsure if it stops over winter, you may want to check that out. Also in Ashton there is a big 2nd hand market on Sundays that may be worth checking out.

Happy hunting & feel free to get in touch if you need some directions to any of the said places :D

Where in Leeds are you cauterize? I'm trying to buy a place in Cookridge at the moment. Where is good to buy games? Everywhere had gone down the pan in Leeds when I moved away to Manc last year!!!! The market on a Monday & Thursday were always good for a score, as was the car boot at the airport.

I've had some good finds in the past at the markets just next to Leeds Bus Station - always worth a half-hour browse during a stop-over on longer bus journeys anyway :)

Ah, I'll have to go check that one out on Monday (well, mainly because it's closest to where I am at the moment rather than because I expect it have an amazing selection.) And work my through the others over time. Hmm, I may also start getting some local papers and see if anyone's advertising anything. Though if I do that I see myself seeing some great item in a place which is a billion miles from the nearest train station. Ah wekk, may as well look.

Wow, there are quite a lot of English people lurking about aren't there? *prepares to blow his entire student loan in January and begin madly hording... oh if only*

Chaoticjelly has a secret source? *dispatches his flying mokeys to stalk him* FLy my pretties! Fly!

Ahem... no mention from me just yet :P

Probably because I'm only down south and everyone else is up... there!

Still, you should try finding Ocean's old offices if you can whilst you are there....

First off, yeah me and Paul are in the manchester area, i'm not exactly sure where abouts Paul is, and i'm not far from the city centre either :P

Also the games station in the arndale is ok, but everyone and his brother go there, also the GAME shop thats on the bottom floor, is a must, they do trades with people, an old for new type of deal, (the old stuff isn't worth much.... to the shop anyways!) so the deals for the trading-customers are crap, But that means cheap retro stuff for collectors.. (if you just buyin) :P

Also ask for the order line at gamestation, it's like there main HQ you can ring them up and they'll do a database search and see if they have what your lookin for, but remember the lads that work there are game junkies too, so they get the good stuff first, dammit!! LOL

In the summer ( at GAME ) i got a Dreamcast boxed in sweet condition 5 games and 2 pads, all leads as well for £20, oohhh weeee!

If you have a car or can get around, there are a few carboots, around the salford, eccles, MCR city centre area, also near the manchester city ground, is SMITHFIELD market. the people that sell there have to get there for 2am the night before to get a spot to trade, and they start at 5 or 6am sunday mornings.

Also there is Salford precinct sunday mornings from 6am till 12pm there is a big car boot, and right now the 6 weeks leadin up to christmas, that place is packed with people selling off, there old stuff.

Also there is a flee market on thursdays at Salford precient, a very good place to start.. i have picked up many retro and "new" games and consoles for good prices there.

Also the Asda in moston/newton heath area (5 mins drive out of the city centre) has a market on wednesday mornings.
