Castlevania is coo, but I voted for Metroid based solely on Super Metroid. It's the only video game that I can't say anything bad about.

What about the fact that it is impossible to lose to the final boss unless you are doing it on purpose? That is a pretty big and obvious flaw in my opinion.

Ok Super Metroid is a great game, but not THAT great.

Amazingly enough, I haven't really played much of either series @_@. I'd say Metroid though, simply because I think Samus is better than some guy with a whip fetish. :D

Metroid solely because the recent Castlevania games are just rip-offs of Metroid (as good as they may be). Now if it was Metroid vs. classic Castlevania, I'd definitely go with Castlevania. :)

Castlevania...

Well, I've played a lot of different games for each series, and out of them all I've had much more fun playing the Castlevania Series.

So Castlevania for me!

Maybe they should release a AvP type crossover game - Metroid Vs Castlevania. My money would be on Samus. ;)

Metroid hands down.. and I love me some Castlevania. There just isn't another series with the attention to detail in its level design that Metroid has. Brilliant puzzles that are pretty open ended with multiple solutions.

Metroid hands down. Love the story and music. Castlevania is great too but I just have a hard time getting into it.

I voted for Metroid, because Super Metroid is my favorite game of all time.

I should add some more Castlevania stuff to the collection, though - the only Castlevania game I own at the moment is Super Castlevania IV.

Well, I chose Castlevania. I really like the Castlevania games on the N64. Bit of puzzle, lots of fighting and adventure thrown together.

Metroid Prime was cool....but I found the magic to be taken away by tedium later on. Those spacepirates got to be just plain annoying later on. So much so that I won't buy the next game.

How the hell is Lament of Innocence or Sympony of the Night rip offs of Metroid?

Aussie2B

How do you NOT see that Symphony of the Night is a Metroid rip-off? o_O Metroid style game design + Castlevania setting + RPG elements = SotN.

LoI is only a so-so rip-off of Metroid. It still has the huge map/maze of rooms, but the gameplay feels more like Devil May Cry.

damn, thats a hard question.i love both series, especially super metroid for snes, which i think is the second best 16 bit game ever made, and all of the castlevanias were great(even the n64 castlevanias were ok)but,i hate metroid prime.its not a bad game on its own(its actually a good game)but it just doesnt feel like metroid to me.plus,if any game has ever been overated, has to be metroid prime.what i always liked about metroid was the exploration on the game, prime takes that away.i want my 2d metroid back.all the classic metroid games,i would say were slightly better then the classic castlevania games(but not by much)but when you add the new metroid prime factor in,plus the new castlevania games are good,i will give it to castlevania.

Castlevania for the following reasons; the original CV is better than the original Metroid, and IMO SOTN is better than Super Metroid (although in a sense SOTN is a bald rip-off of Super Metroid).

The only thing that keeps it close is that Metroid has a superior current-gen game.

LoI is only a so-so rip-off of Metroid. It still has the huge map/maze of rooms, but the gameplay feels more like Devil May Cry.

By that logic everything with a circular object is a ripoff of pong.

LOI and SOTN are very good games, of course they share charateristics of other games, no game is 100% unique of any others. I don't think its fair to call it a rip off.

It's not a rip-off per-say, but you have to admit the obvious influence the metroid games had on SOTN. I mean, the map, menu, hidden rooms and non-linear game play just goes to show. You mean to tell me you couldn't see that?

I love Metroid Fusion and it is definately in my top 5 for GBA, but I love the RPG elements of Castlevania. So my vote goes to Castlevania, but Metroid Prime 2 might change my opinion on that . :-P

I'll go with Castlevania - for one, look at the sheer number of quality Castlevania titles from the NES all the way to the PS2. How many Metroid games are there, about five or six? I think all of the NES CVs are better than the original Metroid, Castlevania Adventure II for the GB is better than Metroid 2 (although the first CV Adventure is not that great, and Legends is good but not spectacular). Haven't played Super Metroid that much, but it's obvious that SOTN borrowed heavily from it - but, on the other hand, SOTN is one of my favorite games of all time. Metroid Fusion is great, but so are all 3 GBA CV titles. I also love the SNES titles and CV: Bloodlines for Genesis, and I don't even mind CV 64. LOI is good, but I've had it for a year and I've only bothered to make it halfway through, so it's certainly no SOTN.

Haven't played Metroid Prime, although I should borrow my brother's copy and give it a shot. But, as I said, there are so many great CV titles out there compared to the limited amount of Metroid games, so I'll go with CV. Plus, I love the atmosphere and music in CV games, moreso than what's contained in the various Metroids.

Is it just me, or is this poll Metroid vs. Metroid-style Castlevania games, rather than Metroid vs. the entire Castlevania series like everyone is answering? O_o

Castlevania. Sure the newer ones are Metroid rip-offs...but I've enjoyed them more than I have the more recent Metroids.

Metroid in 3D, however, has been great.

Very tough choice, but as I'm the guy with two copies each of Rondo and the x68K release, go figure :P

Noted. I still say the recent Metroid-style CVs have been better than their Metroid counterparts.

Super Metroid...well...wrong system (SNES) and if you've got a SNES you've got this game, or should. No question.

Well, as much as Metroid completely rules, and as many times as I ran through Super Metroid with glee, Castlevania is, without a shade of doubt, my favorite game series ever. EVER. EVAH, ya hear me? I had enough gall to grudge my way through The Castlevania Adventure for the Game Boy, so if that says anything right there... yeah. :D

I've always liked Metroid more, it's harder to beat and still gives me hours of fun.Castle Vania is aight too, love that serie but metroid rocks!

Hmm, that is a tough question to answer. There should have been a "both" and "neither" option in the poll.

Anyway, since we had to choose, I went for Metroid, simply because I'm more familiar with the series. However, I highly appreciate the Castlevania series as well, so it's a near tie in my case.

I refuse to participate in this poll. I cannot compare Castlevania to Metroid, simply because of the fact that I WILL not and DO not recognize the new Castlevania games as part of the series. As someone had already mentioned, the new Castlevania games are rip offs of the Metroid series. Therefore I cannot participate in this.

I went with C over M on this. I used to love M but while the GBA games are more true to the originals, I still cant bring myself to want anything to do with the FPS M games. I know all the GBA C games are basicly rips of the PS C:SotN but I loved it enough I just dont care. Plus, the 3D C on PS2 isnt bad looking either.

I have to go with metroid because the gameplay is fun and addictive and it's got cooll weapons plus even cooler bosses.

I voted for Castlevania, mainly because there are more must play CV's than there are games in the Metroid series. If you were only counting metroid-style CV games, then my choice would be Metroid. But without that criteria, it is obvious that the winner is Castlevania, based solely on the fact that Castlevania 3 is the best game in the world.

I love the dark atmosphere that can be found in both series, but I voted for Castlevania. Its horror elements are too effective to ignore...

The original Metroid is crap. It's boring and hard as all hell. So is Castlevania though. Super Metroid was lots of great fun. The last boss isn't really meant to be hard. Just based around the story I guess. Many, many secrets in that game and lots of fun. That's why it got my vote. :)
