Anyone who breaks one of these rules will be immediately disqualified from the contest.

With only one issue left in the contest, we wanted to know how many people have deciphered the hints and found the banners. It will also give you an indication of how many people are competing for the grand prize. :)

Please only vote if you are participating in the contest.

I've LOOKED for the banners....but the clues are so vague, and they could be hidden anywhere on the site (and maybe even in a spot that we would'nt normaly go to) that I've kinda given up. :/

even though im a member of the wire, no one told me where they were, so i only found the 1st one...not that i really bothered looking considering i cant win anyway

I spent a lot of time looking for the first one, but I couldn't find it. I haven't looked for any of the others since. I'll probably try searching some more before the contest is over, but I get the feeling that even if I find the others I'll either not be able to indentify the icons (knowing my luck they'll all be obscure pre-crash sprites :/ ) or I still won't be able to find the first one...

You will be surprised at just how obvious the clues were and how easy the banners are to find if you think about the hints a bit differently.

Trust me, you'll do one of those "d'oh" head slaps when you hear the answers.

the deadline and details on how to submit will be in issue 1.05 which will be sent out on November 27, 2004

As with many others, I looked for the first couple and had no luck, so have kind of given up on it. Now if the prize were some rare colecovision goods, I'd be looking a lot harder. :)

I found the first one in 5 minutes, and spent another 5 mins for hte 3rd one. The second one tho, I spent a week anda half, searching for a few hours each day until I found it hidden in the deep bowels of digital press (not THE digital press, but the site)

Anywho, just thought I'd mention it

I must mention that I am currently using this contest as an active method to NOT study for school, as part of my procrastination scheme. This gives me abundant time to look for the banners, but my first hunches for the locations have proven to be good on two occasions.....

I've figured out the clues; that was the easy part. The strange bit is, can I find the banners themselves? Can I fuck :P

Actually I've found one of them and that took an hour or so going through every page that was relevant (and it was #2, so it sounds like I wasn't the only one having problems going by what Mizarkgarm wrote). Can I spot the other two? Nope. And I'm 99.9% certain I've been looking in the right places. Guess I will just have to see when the contest ends if I was right and where I was going wrong...

I found one, but I doubt that I'm going to be able to guess all the icons, given the icon on the one that I did find.

no one on the wire staff will forward it to you, but unless someone complained or you asked publically for it, i dont see how you could get in trouble from us since we wouldnt know someone sent it to you

so, as long as we have no evidence of cheating, then we cant do anything

You're looking for banners that look like the one at the top of DP WIRE. This is explained on every single issue the contest has run in, so I'm not sure why you don't know what you're looking for.

I went through almost the entire site, and have found nothing. I gave up on trying to find the 1st banner, so I haven't even tried on the 2nd or 3rd. I thought it would be easy to find since after we find it, we still have to find out what the icon is, but it is very hard to find the icons.

Cursed, I am broke and would like a neo geo and would never be able to get one outside of a contest like this. everybody cry for me :(

found issue 1.04s banner (banner 3) in 1 minute...though i dont know the icon?

I have the 2nd and 3rd banners, but missed the issue with the first hint. Spent many an hour looking in the site randomly trying to find the banner, but without that hint so far it has eluded me. :roll: I have however found a TON of cool articles and reviews I would have never noticed before, so I don't feel as if I have wasted any time. Off to hunt some more...

I feel your pain... the clues seem obvious to me and given that some people have found them right away, I can't help but think that I'm looking in the right place. But no luck :/

While I had only minimal trouble with the first three, the last banner has me completely stumped. If you (Joe, Larry) check the webserver logs, you'll probably chuckle when you see I actually resorted to trying to brute-force it, loading each and every page, one-by-one, looking for the damn thing till my eyes glazed over.

I still haven't found the last banner! :angry:

And to think that the end of this is so close in time to Sniderman's annual brain-bender. I wonder how much I'll enjoy the various prizes after the contests break me and I'm confined to the Sanitarium?

Well hopefully I don't get in trouble for doing this but the contest is over so I don't see why I would:

The hint for the first banner simply said "It is hidden". Simply typing the word "hidden" into the DP search engine returns the "Hidden Games F.A.Q." as the first result. Boom, first banner.

The hint for the second banner Said "Coin detected in pocket." Well I didn't know what the heck that meant, so I typed the phrase into the google search engine, and most of the pages it returned were related to the game "Berzerk", so I typed "Berzerk" into the DP search engine. The first result is a review for Berzerk on the 5200. It also contains banner zwei.

The third hint was "A wise gamer learns about obscure systems by seeing the games it plays." First thing I thought of was screenshots, so I went to the screenshots gallery and started clicking on the obscure systems. The DP wire banner is located on the screenshots page for the Memorex VIS.

The fourth hint said "Hiding in tunnels can be tricky." Again, I didn't know what this was referring to. I used the DP dearch engine again (I dont remember what I typed), and it gave me this page:

Ill let anyone who cares to look at the banners and try to figure out what the icons are.

None of these took me long at all to find. Internet search engines are your friends!!!

I never even thought to use google or the DP search engine. I have learned my lesson for the future though :)

Here was my (idiotic) thinking:
1. It's hidden --> looked through all of the easter eggs for every system (pacman on the 4th installment... well, I had given up before then!)

Jibba's method is exactly what I used to find them, although I knew that 'Berzerk' was the second banner without Googling.

This was well thought out and put together, and I really enjoyed it.

Well, it seems the key was using the DP Search feature, something I never thought of. I was sure the "quarter in pocket" referred to something in the Arcade forum, which I scoured for a day or two before giving up. I also thought the hidden thing referred to an easter egg. I'm so bad at these things.

ok ok, that was my thinking too... so we're both idiots :D

with so many people getting zero of the banners, maybe we need a support group for all of us losers. LOL
