View Full Version : Neo Geo Games Pricing Question -- DP Advance vs non-complete

Hey guys,

I have a friend who asked for some help in picking up New Geo games. So I was checking EBay for him today. I've never owned the system, but I recall that many games were held and not sold when SNK pulled support for the system a few years ago, and then last year these games -- as cart only -- were released and sold.

The DP Advance guide, in the pricing section for the US Releases, makes eceptions for the games Faselei and Last Blade that were released 'cart only'. Everything else, it says in the game release note, has prices included as 'complete' -- with box and manual.

Here's my question -- SO many games on EBay (I'd say 99 percent of them) that are US release are cart only, I don't know how to compare what the games are selling for vs what they are worth, because all the US Neo Geo Pocket games are listed as complete.

For example, I'm looking at a copy of Gals Fighters. This is indicated as being R5 and $25 in the DP Advance guide. The copy on EBay right now is cart only for $11.95. Is this a good deal?

Because there are SO many cart only games on EBay, is it possible to have a revised pricing list for US games as cart only? I can't be the only one having this problem and being frustarted that I don't know what a 'fair' price is, can I? :/

Right then... as the dood here who pretty much priced them all up, I guess I should step to the plate and explain :)

The current pricing IS because of the absolute flood of ex-warehouse stock on eBay. Two years ago, the prices were quite a bit different, and complete items were not valued as highly. Come the purge from being in storage for years and suddenly everything has been turned on its head.

The value of the Neo Geo Pocket Color market now is IN the packaging. Plain and simple. Even rare carts, R6 and upwards that you see are worth not very much loose. You can have almost anything from any region of the world on its own for $10 or less if you look well enough.

In fact I'd recommend not paying more than $10 for any loose cart period. It's not worth it, when there are so many of most of them floating about. That's about all I can recommend. If you look in the Advance Guide, you'll find a LOT of other sections where the prices are for complete only. It made sense to me for this section for the reasons I stated; the only valuable NGPC game is a complete NGPC game.

So my semi-official designation for the section is:

Game - all
Rarity - variable
Price - $10

If you really want the game, get it, Gals Fighters is a good game for the system (hell most of them are). But don't expect it to ever go up in value in the future...

Thanks, that does clear up some of my questions.

Like I said, I can't find ONE complete US Neo Geo Pocket game on EBay right now -- everything is cart, and almost none of it is below $10. Well, some of them are $10 with a few bucks shipping, which I guess is fine.

As I said, I'm not buying this for myself -- but I have to assume that my friend knows that these US games are problay going to be cart only. I know that he feels the same way I do -- get it complete when possible -- but I don't see how with this system that's going to be possible.

But thanks for the pricing advice -- I'll keep that in mind as I poke around a bit more and put games on my watch list. ;)

A lot of people got caught out by this admitedly. It is a lot harder to find NGPC games complete now compared to two years ago. Then you could expect to see almost every title at some point. Not any more. All the resellers are trying to shift stock like crazy especially on places such as eBay.

If you really want complete stuff, it won't do any harm to venture over to NeoGeo.Com and ask there for people selling stuff...

My local game store has one of those 4 game blister packs for $19.99 that I've really wanted to buy.

I was in the same boat trying to decide if I should try & get complete copies instead of loose ones.

The pack came with:

Metal Slug: 2nd Mission
Card Fighter's Clash
Pocket Tennis
a 4th game I can't remember (Dark Arms?)

Should I give up hope of complete copies & go for the 4-pack? I really want those first two games - especially Card Fighter's Clash, but I prefer them complete.

If you REALLY want to go the whole hog and dive into getting complete NGPC games, someone is selling the entire UK collection complete (39 titles) on eBay currently. Expect that though to go for somewhere close to a grand ($1700) however. Pocket Reversi is worth a quarter of that pretty much! @_@

*kicks self for not getting Reversi*

Then again, it's only fricken' Reversi.

I submit that the UK/Asia-only Picture Puzzle is the best NGP game.

I went back & checked that 4-pack & Dark Arms is the 4th game.

They have two packs for $19.98, but the Card Fighter Clash games look different. I know there are several versions of this game, but I don't know which one of these to buy.

One game had a rainbow label in the top right, the other didn't. I didn't memorize the exact text on each label, but both look like they're the SNK versions.

Does anyone know which two versions these are & which one I should get?

I'd correct that to read this way:

I submit that the UK/Asia-only Picture Puzzle is the best NGP puzzle game.

For me, you can't top Cardfighter's Clash. I put about 3 times as much time into that game as is required to beat it. Picture Puzzle would be 2nd for me, but alas, I've only played the ROM (can't find the cart).

A couple of these seem to be complete.

(And no, that's the Japanese version of Pocket Reversi, judging from the pic.)

I stopped a bit trying to complete my UK NGPC collection cause of the flood on eBay. It's so much trash and the change you find what you search is quite small if you want it to be complete. Although I bought Last Blade and Faselei US.
