Including a PC compatible Xbox

So let me get this straight, they took a computer, turned it into a console and now they're going to take the console and turn it back into a PC again?.
Am I missing something? :?
My head hurts *_*

I have the same thought about this as I did when ps2 came out if you want a dvd player buy a dvd player, xbox pc,, if you want a PC buy a PC.....i'd rather have that extra money go into game dev or a lower launch price...then again xbox and ps2 already have a lot of cool games

Very simple folks :P
Imagine a computer that's 100% standard. No worrying about drivers, video cards, sound cards, RAM, processor speed, Direct X versions, installation problems, compatibility issues, viruses, etc.
Sounds like a freaking dream to me :) I'm so sick of PC games right now.

Wouldn't the game developers still have to make sure their games were compatiable with it ?

You know, now that I think about it, I recall that back in the mid-90's Microsoft was considering releasing their own line of PC's. The idea never really saw the light of the day, but when I look at these next-gen Xbox plans I can't halp but wonder if this isn't some weird offshoot of that idea. :hmm:

I have one question here - the new Xbox will be using multiple G5 processors which are obviously not PC compatible normally. Since they've recently bought Connectix's Virtual PC, I'd love to see how they tweak the hell outta that to use PC games.

That's the problem though. With having a "standard" computer like that, you lose competition in the manufacturing area of the parts, which would drive up costs.

I found some conceptual art on each of the three versions of the Xbox.

About the DVD issue - imo, that's just the same logical step older CD consoles took when they allowed you to play audio CDs on them. I mean, if they've got identical functionality, I'd also expect them to read that format.

I'll still only buy the standard gaming console version. I have a PC...and I like it that way. Now if you could just buy an "Xbox drive" to add to your existing PC like a DVD-ROM drive...I'd consider that.

I'd probably want the normal console version WITH the hard drive. Not the stripped down one, and not the one that takes place of a 'bare bones starter PC'. I have a PC that is better than a starter PC, and I don't even use it for gaming. LOL
