Hey all,
I thought it'd be fun to share our memories of playing the 6 player version of Konami's X-Men. I have a chance to buy one for 500 (maybe less) and it's supposed to be working and really clean. The real issue is gonna be fitting it into the basment. I know it comes in half, so that's obviously a plus. I have about 3 ft at the bottom of the stairs to maneuver each half of the machine into the basement. It's gonna be tight, but I gotta at least look into it some more. I've thought about going so far as storing one half here and other at a friends house until I can figure out something better. This is one of my "holy grai" machines so I feel like I gotta do what I can to make this work. 8-) If anyone has ever moved one of these beasts, perhaps you have some stories to share?
Anyway, I remember playing the 4 player version at my local Wal-Mart. When I went to Florida in 94 I saw the 6 player X-Men machine. Five guys were already playing, but I was able to jump in and play as Storm. The game promptly reset about a minute later and had a rom error. It was funny because at the time I thought this must have been some illegal version because it was resetting and used two monitors. LOL

I saw one of these for sale a year or two ago but I didn't purchase it. Believe it or not, I have a hard time getting one or two people over to play games, much less five. I assume that as my son gets older he'll start having friends over to the house and they will play my cabinets together, but until then, the 4 player version is okay.

It's kinda funny you should say that, Flack. I have trouble getting a good number of friends over at one time too. Some are busy with work, others away at college etc. Oh well. I am planning a game party in December so I'll have plenty of people over then.

I'd have to say I LOVED 6 player X-Men. I've only played it a few times, and of those, only two with more than 4 people. The times I did play, I must have spent $10 at a shot, it was REALLY fun with all the slots filled (though a bit crowded).

Great game. In fact I just found out yesterday that a fairly new local arcade has one of these, and last night me and my friend the X-Nut spent some quality time with it. We've already agreed that if the arcade ever lets it go for a reasonable price we are going to split the cost and get it.
As far as moving it into your basement goes, I know it would be a very big pain, but maybe you could dismantle it and then reassble it in your space.

Thought I'd bump this thread since something has come up with a different 6 player X-Men. Some of you probably read my thread about the deal on got on my Tempest. I had made an offer on their broken 6 player x-men but the owner wanted more than what I offered. This owner's buddy was interested in taking some of the broken games out of there in exchange for fixing others. He was supposed to come back and take the games (including the xmen) so I figured I'd let him deal with the headache of moving that thing (besides I had just scored the Tempest so I was super happy). As the weeks have gone by, he still hasn't showed up. I talked to the same guy that helped me get the Tempest and he agreed to sell me the game for $150 (1 monitor is dead and the sound it not working). He also said I could take a 25" monitor out of a busted Space Lords game they have laying around. I also have a working 6 player board that I've held onto for years so the sound problem should be no big deal. The final piece to the puzzle is that I have a place I know I can store it and it should fit no problem. Overall it seems like a great deal to me and I'll keep you guys posted on this one.

Well, today's the day. I went back up to the arcade and finalized the deal. The price is actually going to be 175 but I'll still get the extra 25" monitor. Chalk up one more holy grail found. I just hope my buddy and I avoid injury as we move this beast. @_@

Picked up the machine with the help of some friends last Friday. I started to take it apart a little and investigate the non-working right monitor. The fuse was good and based on a resistance test I did on the tube's heater filament I believe the tube is good. Hopefully this weekend I can test out the transformer and make sure I'm getting good voltages to the monitor. I'll post some pics when I get this best moved to a more permanant location.

1 monitor works but looks like it's going the way of the 2nd one that has a bad flyback. 2 rebuild kits coming from Bob Roberts that should get these monitors looking nice. The game has been cleaned well including both monitors. The only thing that isn't original is the PCB. I have swapped in my working one for now since the original pcb's custom sound IC is broken, but I plan to fix it if it can be done. The best part is the cab is #00009. The cab, both monitors, and the broken PCB all have this number.
