Next week, on Tuesday, November 23rd, one of the most anticpated remakes of one of the greatest games of all time finally comes out. Atari and Firaxis Games will release, ONLY for the computer, an all new and updated version of Pirates -- awarded by numerous websites and magazines for more Top Game honors then you can shake a stick at. :)
I failed to make the beta test, but I've watched the trailer and seen the pictures that are online, and the game promises to be nothing short then great. Sid Meier has not made major tweaks or changes to a game that does'nt need them -- it's the same game done over with a modern 3D engine and some other minor enhancements.
For example, when you court the daughter of a governor to see if you can romance her, it looks like you can now do so in a dancing scence, with hearts showing up at the top of the screen and I assume various actions you can take to influence it. For another, there's scenes of a dungeon and you're going through it -- and it looks maze like - fighting guards and the like. It looks like you do this when doing a prison break.
So besides wanting to tell you people about this game -- as I know many of us here are console gamers only, and there's no console plans for this one -- there's a special Limited Edition of the game also.
You can ONLY get it by pre-ordering at EB Games or GameStop and it does NOT cost anymore then the regular version of the game!
What's included with the Limited Edition:
Behind the scenes interviews with Sid and other people on the staff
Exclusive theme packs
Other cool bonus material
Most important -- a free and updated version of the original 1987 game Pirates!
If you've never played either Pirates (numerous computers and NES) or Pirates Gold (PC and Genesis), check out the game -- it's one of the most open ended, fun, and entertraining games I have played in my long history.
The only bad thing is the price -- $50, more then most PC games, but cheaper then Doom 3 and Half Life 2. Now you see why I'm plugging the Limited Edition if it does'nt cost anymore. ;)
I also don't think it supports MP, which is a shame cause that would be a blast -- but anyway, I hope I can talk about the game with others when it comes out in under a week. :D
