Tough competition, I know, but what gets your vote as the 'worst vg ad ever'? Bonus points if the ad makes a great series look terrible.

Of course I can't forget's the "Daikatana will make you Romero's Bitch" classic, but the recent Jackass/Crash ads are god-awful. "I give it 10 out of 10 crutches"? It doesn't make any sense, the tie-in is completely unrelated to the game, there's basically nothing about the actual title in the ad....what can ya do.

It was an ad for WORLD HEROES for nes...and it had the world "bitch" on it....i cant remember more, but it DID make some people complain.

The funny thing is that he didn't really want to do it - but somebody goaded him into going through with it. Bad, bad decision. Right up there with Valve's recent dates screwup in terms of forehead-cratering idiocy.

I particularly like the Winter Heat one, and the one with a supersize Saturn on his back, punching the control pad :)

The BEST one, though, is the ATOMIC BOMBERMAN one.

I grew up watching this ad and I must say that there is nothing wrong with it. :) It, along with the one with the crazy dude wearing black, are two commercials that are burned into my brain for the rest of my life. I wanted Zelda so bad but it was no where to be found. After many months, I finally found one single copy at a local department store.

Yup. That commercial alone made me dislike 1980's Nintendo *THAT MUCH MORE*. They pretty much made that guy to be the ultimate dorkass.

I don't know who thought it was a good idea to portray your consumers as utra-dorky dweebs, but its pretty goddamn insulting.

Almost as insulting as that rap. @_@

I depise the current Blood Rayne 2 ad. It's a pair of breasts and a caption that reads something like "Just two reasons to play this game."

I dunno, cheap boob jokes just aren't that clever.

That said I loved the sims ad where the woman walks in to find her boyfriend in bed with two naked women and her action choices read "get angry" "cry" or "join".

I can't stand the new Smackdown vs. Raw ad. It has a picture of (I think) Torrie Wilson and Stacy Keibler, and below that, it says something like, "You can also play as the male superstars - if you're into that sort of thing." Lame, lame, lame.

It's the 2600 by Atari!" with all the typical late 80s garish design...

It goes well with an early Nintendo Power tv ad that I also have...

Only one word to describe them both: FROMAGE! (or cheesefest if you prefer)

The best vg commercial was for the GBA port of SMB3. The one with all the marios. The song in that commercial is awesome. Glad I found the mp3.

That insanely pathetic infomercial for the Atari Jaguar. Anyone else here care to remember that monstrosity?

"The Cave" yes, it was truely horrible.

It was for a Nintendo baseball game, either SNES or N64. I remember the ad. It said "It's just like being at the ball game, without all of the chili dog farts."
My cousin and I used to track "tasteless" VG ads, and I actually made a Xerox copy of that ad (at the store, without buying the mag) and sent it to him.

He also liked the Test Drive 2: The Duel ad that said "It's important to carry a spare"...and showed a pair of underwear. :)

I'm not clear on all the details, since I'm not a PC gamer, but apparently it was a full page of plain, bright yellow, with large type spelling out "JOHN ROMERO IS ABOUT TO MAKE YOU HIS BITCH."

It didn't go over awfully well.

HA! I love that shit. That's actually one of my faves. Ooo eee ooo ahh ahh, ching chang walla walla bing bang. I remember the fat guy and the spaghetti. I didn't like the Saturn ad with the logo as the eyeball. Just didn't seem "right".

I remember that one. It was something about the guy beat a witch doctor in Dr. Mario, and said witch doctor shrunk his head. Tacky, yes, but IMO somewhat funny. LOL

Actually, I thought that was a Sega one.

The Saturn "Theater of the Eye" commercials were indeed rather abstract and generally terrible (especially when they invoked toilet humor). But I am tempted to put them behind Nintendo's "Give the World a Wedgie" extended bit (from their Play It Loud phase...ugh) which no one else has apparently seen and probably will never see. (This is a Good Thing.)
