View Full Version : Where's this weeks pick?

Flack, I know that this group is hard to corral and get responses from at times :) maybe a ping out to everyone listed in the group is in order. AND if they respond that they still want to be part of it, they must submit a title THEN as part of that reply, that way we have the list ready to go (dupes can be addressed), the only one who would miss out on the suspense of what next week will bring would be you. :(
Just an idea since its such a big list and communication is an issue at times

Hey Smirk ... not ignoring you here, just been trying to think of the best way to answer your questions.
Usually when a pick doesn't get posted, it doesn't have as much to do with the group as it does with me. For example, this week I was in Chicago and didn't get home until Wednesday. I hate posting a new game in the middle of the week as people won't get a full week to try out the game, so when that happens I usually just wait until the following Monday.
Getting everyone's pick at once would be a huge mess, mainly because of all the dupes. Believe it or not, lots of people send me dupes as their MAME picks already, even when all the previously picked games are right there in the post! Usually, waiting for a member's pick isn't the hold up. If I haven't heard from the next member by Friday or Saturday, I usually PM them. If I don't hear back from them by Sunday, I PM the next person on the list. If neither of them answer, I'll just pick a game to keep the club rolling (that's where there are so many games next to my name on the list).
The biggest problem with the MAME Club is that lots of people like to pick the game of the week, but not many people like to play other people's picks -- which is, in essence, the entire purpose of the club (playing MAME Games people may not have had the opportunity to experience, or digging out an old classic and giving it another go).
The second biggest problem with the MAME Club is lack of exposure. People still complain about having a hard time finding the posts (even though they're stickied right here each week). I think this forum is too far down the list to get a lot of foot traffic.
Hopefully as the weather gets cooler and more people begin spending more time indoors, we'll see participation pick up.

Thanks for replying....didn't think you were ignoring, everyone has stuff going on outside of here, and I'm not being critical of how you run the show by any means.
Just like the activity in this group runs hot and cold, well I'm currently running hot and was looking forward to see what the next pick was :D

Yeah, that makes sense, I just remember way back there was a few weeks where you had trouble getting the current pick-ee to pick, and just assumed(sorry Benny Hill) that was the main issue.

I have to admit I'm guilty of that at times too. Not so much recently, but theres times where I won't be on this site for a week *gasp* :) , so sometimes I'll miss a week or two, or I'll play but neglect to post in the thread, which ties in somewhat to .....

Most times when I stop in I hit the top 4 forums, though I've been trying to make it a point to scan down to "the far end of the street" since theres some good threads I've missed, as with most things location, location, location
I think it will pick up once old man winter really settles in.

For the record, I almost always play the pick of the week, but until recently (when Flack started guilting us!) I've been lazy about posting about the games much.

My mother taught me well. ;) I'm like you, I try to play them all as well, some more than others of course. To me a shooter is a shooter, and I'm likely to get bored with it quickly. However, some of the platformers or more classic games, I've played the entire week!
