I have read complaints online about lenses 'popping' on modded consoles, some stuff about super glue screwing up the board, and also at the local GameStop a worker mentioned that 1/4 of the original batch had to be returned I guess because of non-functional memory card ports. Other complaints are that it doesn't have enough cooling and overheats.
Anyone with this actually care to comment?
I have one, SPCH-70012 (I think that's the model number), and it does not seem to get hot for me (I have it placed on top of a flat cardboard box). I am not sure about loading times as compared to the older PS2 models because I never owned one. My memory card slots work fine with PS1 memory cards (don't have any PS2 memory cards to test), and the only complaint I have really is that the flip lid is either too tight or the door release is too weak, because it opens up half way and stops, leaving me to open it to it's fullest extent with my hand. It will open up all the way if it is placed on it's side. This is really trivial, and it'll probably loosen up with use, but otherwise it hasn't really given me all those problems people have said, and I've probably used it for 25-30 hours already for game play and I watched 2 movie DVDs on it...
