What would you ask for? There's a lot of xbox games that are cheap that I can ask for ( deus ex, sonic mega collection, timesplitters 2, XIII, mgs2, etc.), or I can ask for the platinum gc/metroid bundle. Which would you choose, and why?

The GC controller is strangely comfortable, the players choice are just as cheap as platinum hits, and metroid is by for the best game u listed.

Definately GameCube. The games are a lot cheaper and a lot better than XBOX games in my opinion. Countless fun. XBOX is boring -_-

the mario kart bundle is a better deal than the metroid bundle. you can pick up metroid prime this week for $15 at target or toys r us (i believe). the mario kart bundle comes with mario kart: double dash (current retailing for $50), plus a second platinum controller for the same prince as the metroid bundle ($99).

Whaaa! I own both the Xbox and GC - no bundles for me....

Hopefully they will bundle the new "slim" PS/2 for the holidays - I don't have a PS/2 yet

Xbox all the way, mostly because it doesn't require a memory card, the graphics are sharper, and the games are generally cheaper.

Xbox....its a better system, it has Halo, no memory cards needed, custom sound tracks, built in ethernet, optical sound

Damn, I forgot about the custom soundtracks. With the GameCube, I just hum along with the sound turned down.

Meh....why not shoot for the moon and ask for both? I assume from your poll choice that you already own an XboX. Software isn't overly expensive any more...and the Cube bundle is a savings as well.

Why choose? :D

I do own an xbox, and I do own halo. I'm very aware of the goodness of xbox, but I know gc has some very solid titles for it, and it's hard to pass up the package like that for 100. I also like what aphasias said about picking up metroid for 15 bucks after that :D
What it comes down to is whether or not I will be happier adding about 5 xbox games to my library, or adding a gc and only one or two games.

edit: To jdc, I probably will, but I want to decide what I want to give precedence to them. Because if I list the gc and a bunch of xbox games, I'll just get the xbox games. So, I'd have to let them know I'd really like the gc, but games would be ok.

well if you already got a xbox i would go with the gamecube bundle so you can start enjoy those gamecube classics :-P

Gamecube bundle just for the sake that it is a bundle. Thats just the way am. Gamecube and Prime seperate at the same price i would have said the Xbox games.
If you are thinking of getting either of the Sonic Mega Collection games go for the Xbox version it has better games and more content than the GCN copy.

Hmm...GC has some features under the hood that the XBox doesn't; I'm thinking it has better texture compression and a better system for buffering/loading data off the GD-ROM. Anti-piracy measures...well, not many people want to hear about THAT. Broadband modem + Phantasy Star Online = :P

I don't think there's a really remarkable difference in graphics between the GC and the XBox, certainly not in terms of the number of polygons. RAM does make a difference in level size/detail, I suppose...but it seemed to me that Metroid Prime is every bit as detailed as Halo was...and shinier.

Oh, but this is the infamous bundle which started the run of GCs without a composite port, right? Boo. Boo!

Oh, but this is the infamous bundle which started the run of GCs without a composite port, right? Boo. Boo!

No more composite output? Eh, not a problem now, because I only have one set on my tv, and my xbox is staying plugged into those. I figure S-Video should do it justice if I get one. However, in the future, if I still have the same gc without composite and I upgrade my tv, then I've got some changes to make.

First a few corrections:

Hmm...GC has some features under the hood that the XBox doesn't; I'm thinking it has better texture compression and a better system for buffering/loading data off the GD-ROM.

About 90% of the Xbox library supports 480p, as well as in-game Dolby Digital Surround (compared to the 'meh' Pro Logic II on the GCN). Moot point.

Anti-piracy measures...well, not many people want to hear about THAT. Broadband modem + Phantasy Star Online = :P

Anti-piracy measures do not a great console make. The 'Cube is great, but that won't EVER be a selling point. Also, PSO is available on the Xbox as well, with voice chat. Downside is that you have to pay for Xbox Live, but it's well worth it in my opinion.

I don't think there's a really remarkable difference in graphics between the GC and the XBox, certainly not in terms of the number of polygons. RAM does make a difference in level size/detail, I suppose...but it seemed to me that Metroid Prime is every bit as detailed as Halo was...and shinier.

See above for details. Also worth noting is the fact that Metroid Prime came out a year later than Halo did. Both are phenomenal games and both are great reasons to own their respective platforms.

Oh, but this is the infamous bundle which started the run of GCs without a composite port, right? Boo. Boo!

I take it you mean "component" here (composite = red, green and blue for video, composite = yellow for video; Component > S-video > Composite). Yes, it's removed from the back, but you have to ask yourself how big a deal-breaker is that. The component cable is $30 and can only be ordered from Nintendo's site (I had to wait a month before they got them back in stock when I wanted mine). Also, the amount of games that support progressive scan on the 'Cube isn't all that amazing, but the ones that do look great! For what you're getting, I'd buy the bundle, and if for some reason you absolutely HAVE to have the component cable (as I did), I hear Nintendo was doing some sort of compensation where you'd send them your 'Cube and they'll send you a refurb unit with component capabilities (not a bad deal, save for the downtime while you wait on shipping).

As far as advice goes, whichever you will get the most enjoyment out of. There are a lot of fantastic Xbox games that are at the sub-$30 price point these days:

Chronicles of Riddick - $30
Second Sight - $20
007: Everything or Nothing - $20
Psi-Ops - $20
Suffering - $20
Guilty Gear XX Reload - $20
Deus Ex Invisible War - $20
Rallisport Challenge 2 - $20
Tony Hawk's Underground - $20

Either way, the 'Cube has enough good games to justify a purchase, but it looks like the release list for it is slowing down a bit compared to the other two consoles. I see it as a great second console. To me, it's a great second fiddle to my Xbox. To others it may be the other way around or different altogether, but get what you think you'll enjoy (and don't forget a memory card if you go with the Gamecube!).

what about playstation 2

Anexanhume

Playstation is 150 without a game. That's out of my price range, and I could be confident in my gc not breaking.

I own both.

I love both.

However, Gamecube games are HEAD AND SHOULDERS above XBox games when it comes to quality.

That being said, Microsoft releases quality games MUCH more frequently than Nintendo does.

Are you patient like me?

If so, go Gamecube.

None of the "Metroid Prime" games are available for the XBox.

That's basically what it comes down to for yours truly.

depends on the games. I got both but i tend to go with the gamecube stuff simply because you can't buy it on any other system unlike the xbox stuff.

There are only two games on xbox that i want that are exclusives, Halo 2 (but for how long) and Project Gotham 2... actually can that i only want Halo 2, but i think that i will wait until it comes out on PC. LOL

About custom soundtracks... Only games with poor original soundtracks need you to cover them up with custom jobs. I gues that's why ms added this feature. The metroid prime soundtrack is as ambient as it is musical; pure aural escapism.

I'm gonna also say that it depends on your normal buying habits throughout the year.

If you would most likely end up buying the XboX games on your own anyways....then ask for the Cube. A Cube on your own is a much bigger purchase than several XboX games bought over time.

You have been good this year ask Santa for Both LOL

The Xbox is a better system, but you should get a GC so you will have both system. MUST OWN EVERY SYSTEM. :D

Defiinately go for the GameCube - its by far a better system than the XboX. Sure, XboX might have superior hardware, custom sound, ethernet, hard drive, etc. but consoles are all about games, and thats where the GameCube delivers.

Go for the Mario Kart bundle, get Metroid Prime for $15, and prepare yourself for some quality gaming this Christams! :)
