Sega Menacer Help

I recently got the Meancer gun for the Sega Genesis and its not working. I plugged the infrared thing in the controller port and put new batteries in it but its not working. Anyone know anything that I can try to get the gun to work?

Are the battery terminals corroded?

Are you using it with a Menacer compatible game? The Lethal Enforcers games were NOT Menacer compatible for example.

I just bought one of these as well...complete with multigame cart, haven't used it yet. Is the infrared unit to be set on top of the tv for best gameplay?

Is it in the 2nd controller port? I'm pretty sure I remember the infrared receptor needing to be plugged in their.
