View Full Version : Lunar Eternal Blue Complete UPC oddity

This is another one for the fellow obsessive collectors out there. :)

While cleaning my Lunar game cases, I noticed something odd. The Silver Star Complete case liner does not have a UPC. This makes sense as it was packaged in the box and would never need to be scanned seperately. However, my copy of Eternal Blue Complete DOES have a UPC on its case liner.

I don't recall there being a standalone release that would require a UPC on the case itself. Were there plans for one?

Odd. On my copy, bought new from EB, the UPC codes on both box and case are 7 35366 01071 3. Punching the search string Lunar "eternal blue" UPC into Google provides dozens of results which give the same number. Maybe the outer box is a copy?

EDIT: A bit more searching shows that 7-35366-00628-0 is actually the UPC code for Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete. Curiouser and curioser...

You caught my mistake. Somehow I had switched the boxes and didn't even notice. :embarrassed:

The UPC being on the inside case is still interesting. Maybe they had complaints or issues with there being no UPC on the inside case of Silver Star Story and decided to put one on Eternal Blue.

This is off topic, but Zing, I love your avatar! What is that thing, and does it come from a game? It looks like a Tennage Mutant Ninja Turtle on crack! LOL

On topic, that would annoy the hell out of me too. Like you, I'm extremely obsessive about my collection, and it would really bother me for there to be a difference like that between the two games. I dunno why, because it is a trivial difference, but I'm very anal about that kinda stuff. I just can't stand it!

It's from a Magic card,Psyatog is the name, but sure if the spelling is right. With that being said the last time I played Magic I owned a psyatog deck,it made me happy.

Yes, it is Psychatog, a card from Magic: The Gathering. Psychatog was a very popular card and had many decks based around it for a long time.

I started playing Magic in 1996, quit after a few years, started up again a couple years ago, and finally quit early this year. I sold off my collection on Ebay and netted a few thousand dollars.

Well, I am glad to see that my copy of Eternal Blue appears to be normal.

I owned and played through Lunar Silver Star on Sega CD at least 2 times back in the day. Sadly, I sold off my Sega CD system after being disappointed by Mortal Kombat (it was almost identical to the cart version but with redbook audio and huge load times). I tried to wait for Lunar 2, but it was delayed over and over again.

I own both Playstation Lunars now, but haven't even put them into the console yet. I had to break my FFXI addiction first. Now I have to break my Tekken and Raiden Project addiction. :)

One possibility for the dual UPCs-

To assist retailers who get returns or trade-ins of just the game itself, not the extra stuff.

I also was going to comment on the avatar. I love it. Huge MTG player.

Do you organize by UPC # or somegthing? I never really got the purpose of people making a big deal out of UPC's.

I may be able to offer a possible explanation:

Workign Designs, being the extreme goobers that they are, most likely didn't place a UPC on the insert because they did not want to risk people yanking the collector's stuff and then trying to sell the disc seperately. It's the same reason why *most* pack in games like socom w/ head sets don't scan into PCs, because their barcode is different.

As for adding it to the second Lunar, times change.

On a collector's note the Lunar event is actually the best way to tell if you have the right version for the box set, or if you have the Fan Edition. :)

No. I have games sorted alphabetically. Like I said, I only noticed it because I was cleaning the case with some Goo Gone and saw that one game had the UPC while the other didn't. I was hoping that I didn't get slipped some stand-alone edition of the game in my collector's edition box set.

EDIT: A bit more searching shows that 7-35366-00628-0 is actually the UPC code for Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete. Curiouser and curioser...

I think I missed something here, why is this making you more curious?

It refers to a part of the original post that was edited out. We were trying to figure out why Lunar: EB had two different UPCs on his copy. He was looking at the wrong box though. :)
