Until '1st quarter 2005'. Early speculation indicates that the delay is to compete closely with Forza Motorsport on Xbox, also sue out early next year. Which possibly means the inclusion of online play. According to a posted email, all Sony has said is that they are 'finalizing key features'.

The game was announced to have been 'gold' on November 9th, and shipping on Dec. 14th. So what happened? It was delayed in Japan yesterday, then in the US within 24 hours.

I've got plenty of game on my plate as it is, so a delay isn't the end of the world, but it certainly is disappointing.

I await all of the bashers and Xbox fb's to make an appearance.

I have always been a fan of the GT series. But the Forza Motorsport game looks hot as well. I will get both because Forza is online enabled. I dont know what Sony was thinking not going online with Gran Tourismo 4 from the get go, but damn them graphics look sweet.

They pulled back on the Online aspect of GT4 because they knew that there would be problems getting it to all run together well online. This like KillZone is one of those pushes the PS2 to its limits title and thats hard enough to go and do offline, let alone adding online components to it and expect its framerate to drop to shit.

I'm not attempting to be a fanboy here but...

If Sony was serious about putting the online stuff in there, they should've built the game around that instead of trying to throw it in as an afterthought. If Sony is really worried about Forza's online features, they should've built the game around it.

Port it to the XBox -- no problems with online there. :D

Maybe the delay is to add an online option?

There is no excuse for no online. I was playing Speed Devils Online for Dreamcast like 3 friggin years ago. Online is where its at for racers, I would take the Forza game anyday.

I heard that the delay was simply due to some loose ends as far as licensing of the various car brands.

Offline or online, I don't care. The bulk of the game will be offline. I've been patiently waiting for Gran Turismo 4 for a long time. If a delay means a bug-free final copy...then Polyphony can take as much time as they want. Give it to me next summer if you need to.

I don't want a glitched up piece of shit like.....a certain recent XboX release that shall be nameless.

According to the Sony rep, yes.
