Reading thru the I HATE "GREATEST HITS" thread made me think of something, and therefore a new post.
Is anyone collecting current gen games, still sealed and hiding them in a closet for 5, 10, 20 years?
I sure wish I could, but damn, $$$$$$.
Even if I do get a game for cheap or whatever, and I don't play it right away, I still rip em open and remove the packaging, and check out the insides. Call me crazy, but thats just me.
I would love to buy games and keep them for years and then sell em all off.
But it's hard to say what is going to sell and what isn't in da future.

Heh, when I first say the thread title I thought it was in the wrong forums. Funny thing though, I just saw a Delorean yesterday parked where I work... I want one so bad...
Didn't see any video games though.

i have thought about doing this before, but it seems that the risk is too great for the potential profit. Even if you had a 75% rate of success buying games that increased in value, i dont think it would be that lucrative.

I have done that with a few games -- I picked up a sealed FF Tactics, 7, 8, 9, and X when they were brand new and put them into storage. I did it cause I'm such a huge FF nut and I was hoping that I could sell them off someday for a decent ammount of money, despite how many copies I knew would be made of the game. But I never did it with anything else, mostly because I'm not a collector and the games are so expensive.
When the re-release of FFT came out, I realized I had missed my chance to make any money on the game and traded it to a friend for some other gaming stuff.
Yes, I do still have the other four games sealed. I know I can get okay money for them, but I'd still rather wait. Not sure WHEN the right time to sell them off will be -- but I wish I had them now, cause I'm out of work. However, they are stashed at the house with some other childhood stuff of mine and I don't know where it is. When I go home next month I'll see if I can find them.

Shitty man! Nothing worse than missing the resell prime time.
Good luck on the other games thou.

I should do okay with FF7 sealed.....it IS original, after all, and I've seen those do quite well on EBay. I'm not sure, like I said, what I want to do with the four games when I find them next month.....I'll probaly go ahead and sell them on EBay right then as a sealed collection. I paid $200 plus tax for the four games, so here is hoping I can get that back plus some.
And yeah, I wish I had'nt missed on FFT either....I only go home once a year, though, and have'nt looked for them for a while. I do still have a complete like new copy of the game, though -- original release for myself. ;)

Yup...I'm stashing a few titles here and there. Not many but we'll see. I only do it for games I can get really cheap though.

I've got a Delorean, plenty of Plutonium, (raduim, uranuim, and other isotopes too) and even a functioning flux-capacitor... but sadly, it tops out at a mere 65MPH.
But I CAN hit you over the head with a mallet while wearing a leisure-suit and an afro-wig, and you'll THINK you went back in time.

I've never stashed away sealed game, but you'd think from collecting RPGs I'd know better. I've recently tried to resist the urge to rip open every game I buy as soon as I buy it however, you know getting a new game before you have the time to play it and playing it for an hour or two just to see how you like it. That way if I do happen to buy a game that'll be worth more in the future, say my copy of SO3, I won't have just opened it for the sake of opening it.
I don't expect my will power to hold up though, I'd hate to think I'd pass up playing the game when I get the chance just because it might become rare. I'm not in it for the money, I just happen to enjoy a genre that's ridicolously collectible.

This is kind of funny, but I saw a YELLOW, bright yellow delorean parked out in front of a game store I was in last week. It wascrazy seeing one that color.
Back to topic, I have thought about doing this plenty. If I had more money to do it I probably would, but can't afford extra games, plus the other thousands I still need in my collection.

Yep, doing just that. I'm collecting RPG's and scarce games (Like Space Channel 5 Part 2, Ico, Crazy Taxi 3 Etc) and storing them away to become rares!
Most of them are just games I have bought but just can't find the time to play, so they remain sealed. Especially my RPG's cos they take ages to play.

I've just got the Zelda Oracle games sealed up and stashed in my closet. I got 'em pretty cheap and they might be worth something to someone in the future.
Worst case, I'd just sell 'em for what I paid for 'em and give some Zelda fan some joy. LOL

I've thougth about doing this before. But I really wouldn't like to spend $50 on a brand new game and not knowing if it's going to be worth anything or rare in the next 20 years. All I'm doing is taking care of every video game and video game system so I can sell my video game collection when I'm in my 40s and retire early! :D.

I have the first 6 Pokemons stored away as well as the blue and red Zelda games on GameBoy. Nothing else though as I won't touch Next Generation stuff yet.

Haha, making me think of...pictures of matchstick men... o_O we're just layering the insanity now, laying it on real thick.
Um...what was I saying? Oh, I'm sure I'll be able to retire on my sealed CV: Aria of Sorrow. ROFL
Until I got this batch of SMS games, the possibility of selling stuff never had seemed like something I'd be doing...but here I am...

It better be official, 'cuz the filename would be pretty silly otherwise :O
