I was reading the new XBN and they mentioned that one of the best Japanese made games for the Xbox, Phantom Dust, only sold around 2000 copies in its first day of release. He goes on to say that the game will be lucky to ship 5000 copies before the end of the year. So if that is true and this game doesn't make it to a world wide release do you think it will become harder to find down the road? I am unsure of other Japanese exclusive games for the Xbox. Famitsu gave the game a 34/40 and they are usually pretty tough to please when it comes to games. One of them gave it a 10. Could we have a future Dracula X on our hands? Time will tell.....

I've been thinking about getting that game. I hear it's really good.

The frist release of SF Anniversary will be somewhat rare I'd think, since it got recalled.

there were few Japanese exclusive titles for Xbox we don't hear about...

Kakuto Choujin - the original one with Muslim chant as BGM
Air force Delta II - original Konami release run
Terenezza
Muzzle Flash - obviously it was bombed and didn't sold well
Fatal Frame SE - one with extra costume
Mobile Armour J-Phoenix+ LE - w/ bonus DVD
Rent A Hero No. 1
DOAU bonus disc Digital Venus
Tekki Test Pilot beta disc
Shin Megami Tensei Deluxe
Panzer Dragoon Orta 1st print LE - one w/ bonus CD
Double Steel - one w/ bonus CD
Magi Death Fight
N.U.D.E. box set
Magitama
Bistro Cupito box set
1000 Lands
EXASkeleton

that's about I can think of at the moment...
maybe some of these aren't that rare but from their going rate I'd it wouldn't hurt to get them while you can... :D

Hummm Jap Rarities on the XBox

I say they all will be rare because the XBox is getting its ass kicked in Japan

Honestly, I think that if the Xbox continues to sell like it has been in Japan, almost anything that is an Xbox Japan exclusive will be extremely rare. It reminds me of when the Jaguar was released there -- new manuals were made to go with all the games in Japanese... and they are nearly impossible to find for the few games that were released. I can imagine the Xbox will be much the same way.

I, for one, probaly have the most games for my Xbox right now, not only because of the superior graphics and sound and online play, but because it's a American console designed by a American company with American games designed for American gamers.

No wonder it's not doing well in Japan. ;)

But the American gaming market is larger and more important then the Japanese one now anyway. :P

I heard Working Designs may be working on an XBOX RPG for translation next year. Are there even any besides Shin Megami Tensei Nine? It would be AWESOME if they brought that over.

Phantom dust is an awesome Jap exclusive X-Box title. It will not be released here. That's to bad.

Another reason could be that Microsoft is treating their Japanese X-box people like crap. I read a article about it. Basically they put some american guy who has NO experience with Japanese buisness practices in charge of the JP X-box people. They started laying people off with no warning and doing other big Japanese cultural no-nos. Sorta like if you worked for Sony america and they made you dress up in mascot costumes and sleep in sleeping tubes at work.

Am I correct in assuming that you can't play Japanese Xbox games on US consoles?

only Japanese Xbox and Asian Xbox can play JPN titles out of box.
Asian Xbox is basically JPN Xbox in different packaging...

I'm thinking of picking up JPN Xbox motherboard and HDD combo in near future...

cheers

I heard they are recalling the remaining first batch due to bug(?)... :D
from what I heard M$ gives the publisher the choice of makeing their titles limited to a specific region or region free... sadly most of publisher opted for region coding while there are few exception - some of Ubisoft titles are in fact region free even though marked with NTSC/PAL...

I think I heard DOAU JPN is also region free? Is it true?

cheers
