Not just another frontend for Mame, but THE frontend to use imho. I usually just use Mame32 for my GUI, but no more. This is so fast and so simple to use. Just unzip it to the folder with the official Mame release and run it. It will detect all games of course, and has some nice features. Like I said, super fast and barely uses any resources... doesn't even need to use other dll libraries and such.. just uses it's executable. Also, true full screen would be excellent for a Mame cab as well as the ability to control the GUI with the joystick! Even if you hate frontends, try this one!

I installed it and am using it. Seems pretty cool to me, though not all that different from MAME32.

Very similar to MAME32.
Anything that uses the AOL icons in its toolbar can't be good. ;)

I'll have to check this out. I used Lemon Launcher on my friend's MAME cab and while it's pretty good, it's a pain in the bootay if you want to add/remove games. Mame32 works okay in a cabinet until you want something that starts with X and you're in the A's.

It indeed looks like Mame32 but has some fantastic features like search, and moving bad roms to a folder.

For a dedicated cabinet, it's gotta be mamewah all the way for me :) ungodly customizable skins, and support for infinite emulators.

It gets no better than MAMEWAH... :rocker:

I mapped one of my buttons to the Z key, therefore when I press it, zoom takes me to the bottom of the game list. :)
Same thing with the A button.
Using Mame32.

Yes, Mamewah is indeed very good for use in a mame cabinet. You can create cool visuals with it.
The problem with lots of frontends is memory use and system resources. easymame doesn't use a lot of memory and even less systemresources so there's more left over for emulation! Infact, it uses almost nothing compaired to all frontends i know. Maybe that's why it's fast and smooth to work with.
(sorry for my bad english - i am German) :)

Have any of you ever written your own front end? I've started a couple different ones, but never finished any of them. I've ended up using other people's front ends to date, but I can't help but think that if I wrote one I could make it look and act EXACTLY how I wanted.
It's the programmer in me.

I've never had much (any) success with front ends. I just tried a bunch of 'em yesterday because I have a vertically oriented display and I need an easy way to cycle through games without turning my head 90 degrees. Half the ones I tried didn't even work. Most are too similar to MAME 32 to bother with.
I've seen Advance MAME in action and it works beautifully when it's set up the right way. Unfortunately it is beyond my computer abilities. Once I get into this "command line" business I've lost interest.

Lemon Launcher supports vertical displays, and took me about 10-15 minutes to completely set up and configure.
Like MAMEWAH though, if I write a front end it'll have to be something that supports multiple emulators. And play MP3's for background music.

Do you mean pultiple mame binaries? That's something from the past you know. 1 year ago it was very handy to work with different mame version. IMHO this is now obsolete.
But why the f*ck do you want mp3 support ????????? Just to hear the game???
Seems a was of resources to me. :)

No, I mean multiple emulators for multiple systems. I want to play Atari and NES games in there too, among other things.

Because I like to f*cking hear them in the menu. It's kind of cool to have 80's music going while I'm picking a game out to set the mood.

Depending on what games I'm playing, I'll leave MP3s going while I play... reminds me of being in an arcade that way.

I actually don't use the mp3 feature in mamewah, but doing your own layouts is SO EASY that it should be a paid for product, it's just THAT good. (not that I want to pay for it or anything....)
