View Full Version : Games That Will Never Get a Sequel But NEED One

You know the ones. There's always an underappreciated game that leaves too much open to be satisfactory with its own ending and it needs at least one sequel to wrap things up well. Some examples of this include Soul Reaver: Legacy of Kain and Shenmue. However, both of those games have sequels. But what's out there that isn't finished and it should be?

Panzer Dragoon Saga, the ending left some unaswerd questions.

XIII - Should have had a sequel as it finished with a huge (but fairly obivious) plot twist.

probably the game that gets this designation most (and agreed, it really should have one) is NiGHTS. Soooo good.

Man oh man.....where to start?

I'd love to see a modern 128-bit update to World Driver Championship, by Midway and Boss Studios (N64). Unfortunately, Boss went under.

Rare could do 128-bit sequels to a lot of their N64 games.....but unfortunately they're now on a system that has a different audience. I can't see the current XboX owner buying Diddy Kong Racing 2 or Banjo Kazooie 3. Dumbest thing Rare ever did was agree to be bought by Microsoft. They could have remained independant and done games for all systems.

A new Tomba 3 game from Whoopee Camp would be cool.

I don't want to say Beyond Good and Evil because in my mind, I keep hoping there will be one. But I really want a sequel. Even if they don't make it a trilogy, close the series! Or forever be a fucktard, Ubisoft.

For some odd reason, i've always though that Battle Arena Toshinden deserves a sequel on the current hardware.

Also, Lunar 3 :( I need Lunar 3

I'd like to see another game like pieces come out(for DS perhaps). That game is loads of fun. Just needs more puzzles. :(

Gunstar Heroes
Secret of Evermore
Final Fantasy III
Beyond Oasis
Magic Knight Rayearth

I suppose none of thse games really need sequels in terms of story, but it would be interesting to see more of the characters life after their first adventure.

AXELAY 2. They promised us one after the ending of Hard mode of Axelay... so why hasn't it come yet? WHY, KONAMI???

Earthbound (aka mother 2).. They canceled mother 64, but it looks like mother 3 will be released for GBA. I just wish they would bring Earthbound + Earthbound zero for the GBA to the US.

I can agree with that. The only game Rare has done that would even begin to appeal to hard core Xboxers is Perfect Dark, and even that is supposedly "cel shaded" now (and probably not coming out for, what, another ten years, considering Rare's typical development cycle)

But sticking to topic... Beyond Good and Evil. Yeah. Oh! And Nightshade (not the recent PS2 game, but the old NES title)!

The "Rocket Knight Adventures" series needs to be brought back, it needs a newer third game... we have Rocket Knight Adventurers and Sparkster : RKA2, now we need a third, darnit!

NiGHTs also needs a sequel.

I'd also like to see a redone 3D version of the classic Mario games...not Mario 64 mind you...but the old games REDONE... who would'nt like to play SMB2 or 3 in a 3D world!

I would have to say Final Fantasy Tactics.

And I would like to see a sequel to Konami's Ring of Red, I love the alternate WW2 historic world they created.

Last but not least I would love to see a new entry to either Starflight or Star Control.

Well, I know Mister Mosquito has a sequel in Japan... But damnit, it needs to be released here!

And another raised hand for Lunar 3. No matter what rumor, I'll believe it when it gets reviewed by EGM and hits the shelves.

Does anyone think that Katamari Damacy will get a sequel?

Graham Mitchell
11-21-2004, 04:13 PM
If Katamari Damacy does get a follow-up, I hope they actually come up with something new and interesting worth making a sequel for. Not that KD is lacking in anything, I just hate it when the sequel comes out less than a year after its predecessor because it's usually an indicator that nothing changed.

As for me, I want to see a sequel to the Immortal. The Genesis version was so incredible that I would have sworn they were going to squeeze more games out of that. But once EA Sports took off, Electronic Arts started to ignore other types of games, so I guess I'm not really surprised.

Right.

Secret of Evermore
Final Fantasy III

Wrong.

Perfect Dark

Yes.

I would definitely kill to see Square Enix bring back ACTRAISER in 3-D.

Streets of Rage

Maybe so. Valis would go good in that category of "Really good games in the early 90's, how in the hell are we going to pull this off on advanced hardware?" category.

a real sequal to xenogears

AHAHAHAHAHAHA! Fat chance. I wish.

I'm going to add to the pot my three wishes. Project Justice, Vagrant Story, and Shenmue all need more games.

Damn right!

Others, need em:

- Ghouls and Ghost (a sequal, not that XBOX live one)
- Demon's Crest
- Slatterhouse (or a collection)
- Sweet Home (Japanese Famicom: intresting enough, thats what started the RE series and other survival horror games)
- IKARUGA!! (i know the ship is gone)

Lord Contaminous
11-21-2004, 05:11 PM
Actually I don't think there would be a sequel to Sweet Home, since it's basically a movie-to-game port.

But then again. Look at the Goonies. There was a game for the first movie, but then Goonies 2, there was a game only plot that had lots of potential for a movie sequel.

As for a sequel to Xenogears, I wouldn't look to forward to that. The Xeno-series has Star Wars syndrome.

I think we need a megaman sequel that links the original story to the X series. They still haven't cleared that up after all this time.

Also, i want a new Chrono game, one that comes between Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross to explain what the hell happened. If you've played thru cross, you know what I'm talking about.

I thought it took place way past WWII...they were just trying to revive Hitler. Anybody?

My choices?

KId Icarus
Phantsy Star
Alex Kiidd (Shame on everyone for not saying this one yet. :-)
Any in the Dragon SLayer seies...especially Legacy of the Wizard...and not all that Legend of Heroes stuff.
Symphony of the Night...not on a portable...well, I guess the new ones could handle it, but mainly, I'm hoping Alucard comes back.

I really like someone's suggestion of Ufouria. I think a lot of Sunsoft games should get sequels.

Bionic Commando
Kid IcarusBionic Commando is base't on WW2 so it can't git a sequle.

Sort of. It takes place in 198X where there was a Nazi (Badds) revival. Sure it has WWII era looking Nazis (in PINK), but Hitler died some 40 years before and was resurrected at the end of the game (in 198X).

What they SHOULD do is a prequel with Super Joe that takes place when he was young (and of course breakaway from things and give him a bionic grapple).

C'mon people! Tell me that wouldn't be just FREAKING AWESOME!!!

While NiGHTS is one of the ones that always comes up in this kinda discussion, I'd disagree that it 'needs' a sequel - in my view, the original is near-perfect already and unless something can be created that greatly improves the experience whilst staying true to it's original vision, I would strongly argue against a sequel.
Don't tarnish the name without a damn good reason.

Secret of Evermore was a pretty decent game, but I wonder if Square (-Enix) of America is up to the task of making annother game, let alone annother SoE.

And I can't stand Square (-Enix)'s new approach on Final Fantasy, with Sequels Prequels and Sequel / Prequel Spin-Offs... Just hurry up and put out XII...

I'd love to see an update for Rampart. That game was all about pure and simple gameplay (talking about 2-player versus) and that is what makes it one of my most favorite games.

I'd like to see a 4-player deathmatch (or teams of 2) that kept the simple yet addictive gameplay with maybe a few extra twists (different kind of cannon, customizable maps, different kind of ammo [flaming balls], etc...) but updated with new spiffy graphics. Even online would be fun.

If nobody knows what Rampart is...it's like a medieval war game with "Tetris" (building) phases...
