As a video game fanatic and collector, I was thrilled to find a newsletter from a internet video game company I subscribed to in my inbox this morning w/ info on this new Neo Fami system.
Finding it very difficult to find a decent priced top-loading NES system or a functional old style NES, I pretty gave up and fell back on my Nester DC NES emulation disc I have for my Dreamcast. After hearing about this system now though makes me want to jump back into the whole NES/Famicom gaming.
Before I drop $50 on the system, has anyone actually played it or better yet own the system? I see all over the 'net that a 60 to 72 pin adapter comes included w/ the system to allow US NES games to be played. I'd just like a little insight since I know very little at this point. Thanks!

Overall, they seem pretty solid and have a decent enough rep. They are actually sold in a lot of major Japanese electronics stores, I know Yodobashi for a fact, I'm almost certain Sofmap too. I would definitely think of picking one up, although undoubtedly the controllers are crap.

Wjy do you say that? Does anyone know if other controllers are compatible on this system?
I thought I read somewhere that they were working on making the light gun and other controllers (such as the Max) compatible...

you can probably use regular famicom controllers on it. But yes, all famiclone controllers are crap, utter crap

But how is the system and the adapter itself? Are they of good quality?
I found them in stock @ Baysoftgames for $39.99 and @ Toys 'n Joys for $29.99 ... this would make an awesome X-mas gift to my family if the system infact works and plays the old 8-bit NES games just as good as the super expensive top loading NES system.

it looks like the toys n joys model does not include an adapter(tho it does say it plays NES and famicom games...) The baysoftgames site is just taking preorders, i have heard mixed things about baysoft games as well
I just ordered the one from toysnjoys.com it is made by yobo
the ones at baysoft and estarland are by gametech.
I dont know if there is much difference or not?

We'll find out soon enough what the difference is. I pre-ordered mine from Baysoft and was told my their Customer Service Dept. that these should ship in time for Christmas. I sure hope they are right!

I just bought one and it is great, the sound could be a bit better, but NO FLASHING SCREEN. Plus it is cheaper than a top loading NES and you can play Famicom games on it.
I think this is a good buy.

My I ask where you purchased yours from and how much you paid? Also, did you get the NES adapter w/ your Neo Fami? If so, do your old NES games work good? Appreciate the feedback!

I'm pretty sure the Neo Fami that I was talking about was made by Gametech, not Yobo... just to clarify

The ones listed on Toys n' Joys for $29.99 are packaged in English packaging, makes no mention of the NES adapter and clearly says Yobo in the upper left corner of the box. The ones listed on eStarland and Baysoft Games both are the Japanese Gametech packaging.
I'm still hoping Baysoft comes thru for me and delivers my system before X-Mas! I've got an itch to play some old skool NES games....

Well, I kind of doubt it. Most pirate famiclones use a pirate-standard db-9 type plug, like a Genesis, SMS, VCS, 7800, and Colecovision.
I believe Lik-Sang sells a Turbo control pad with this fucntion. If I remember correctly, they had it mistakenly labelled as being for the original Famicom (not the AV top loader famicom) and not for pirate systems, but it is definitely for pirate systems. Crappy buttons, but not a bad pad over all.

Mine is the Yabo one it was $60 and came with the converter and two controllers. I also bought mine off of ebay, there are some sweet Famicom colored ones listed now too.

mine arrived yesterday, i got the one from toys n joys for $30,(no adapter), works great for my famicom imports and it does in fact come with a converter to play usa games. The one from toysnjoys is the one i would recommend since it is cheaper than the others and works exactly the same
The controller is extremely lightweight and feels flimsy, other than that i have no complaints at all, the A/V out on this is far superiour to the R/F switch on the usa toploader. But again, i cant use any of my NES controllers on this... (no nes max or advantage or dogbone will ever work on this)

mine arrived yesterday, i got the one from toys n joys for $30,(no adapter), works great for my famicom imports but i need to get one of the converters from lik-sang.com for $10(or 5 for $25) to play my usa games.
TnJ's description then is misleading. It says just plug in your Famicom or NES games thru the top and play away. I ordered mine (w/ the adapter for $40) from Baysoftgames.com, but I still haven't heard from them. They are available all over the 'net...I wonder what is taking them so long to get theirs in stock?

NO i am wrong, i just checked the packaging and it does indeed have a converter, i tested out a few games(usa) and they work great. GET THE ONE FROM TOYSNJOYS FOR $30
it has great reception, and no blinking screen. It is superiour to the usa toploader since it has AV out except that is cannot use the usa controllers(advantage, max, dogbone, quickshot etc)
GREATNESS

Hey I'm gettin a serious problem with mine it doesnt play my NES games at ALL. All I get is a black screen. Please tell me what can I do, hope I didnt waste 50 bucks or could it be my games? I havent tested the games out on any other console but this one, in two of the three games I have, the gold connectors in the cartridge are white in the middle. Are they suppose to be like that or are they always should be gold? The one game I do have has all the connectors gold, but even that doesnt work with it as that gets a white screen
GREATNESS

A big bump here.
Now that these have been around for several months, can people who have them give a brief review? Do they work as advertised? How are the controllers? How is set up? I am seriously considering getting one and want to here some feedback after people have owned them for several months.

I only have 2 Famicom games and a handful of NES games, but all of them play great. The controllers feel good in your hands, but I haven't tried the slow motion or turbo features. They aren't as solid as SNES controllers, but the D-pad and buttons seem to be pretty responsive.
I was torn whether to buy one or not, since I have a great NES emulator disc for my DC. I caved in though for the collectibility of the games and such and I'm glad I did.
If you are worrying about space, don't. This sucker is super small. Take 4 CD jewel cases and stack them up...that is approx. the size and height of the system. Comes w/ a single audio channel and video plug w/ AC adapter and NES adapter...just plug and play.
It should also be pointed out that the NES games insert backwards for some reason. I'd also recommend attaching the adapter to the NES game FIRST then inserting the whole cartridge into the machine.
@ $30, it's a must. Everytime I bought a used front loading NES it never worked...no matter how much I cleaned my games or the system. While you're at it, pick up a game cleaning kit and clean all of your games prior to playing...it'll only help matters.
Hope all of this info is of help. Now go get gaming...
I just got mine today. The picture quality is amazing. No fucked up horizontal lines and shit. Even Thundercade looks pretty good on it, and that game looks like shit on my Toploading NES. I am gonna try SMB 3 on it and see how it works. The whole console looks real flimsy though. As a matter of fact if you open the panel there where the game goes in, you can see the wirework inside. Well I only paid fourty bucks for it. If all goes well and it holds up I might trade my top loader away for something good. The controllers are a bit flimsy..
