stopped by gamestop and actually got one without reserving, at first they didnt wanna sell me one, but then i asked the manager if i bought a game if he would sell me one and he agreed. he said they had 4 spare copies after all reserves

that store only got 18 DSs... damn thats almost nothing.

i actually spent like an hour playing mario w/ the manager lol
and yes, its a wonderful system and controls/feel are great.

Just like when the PS2 was released.I was the first person in my area to have actually pre-order a DS, so picking it up was quick and easy. 8-)

Why did they refuse to sell you one if it was a spare? Isn't that the intent of spare store copies, to be sold to anyone who wants one?

I got mine earlier today! I love it!

I got Mario 64 with it as well, and though the control is just a tiny bit strange, it's still pretty good.

I really want to play multi player something with someone. How do you set the DS into the mode where it will "Sense" other DS units and spring to life when it does...?

I have not read the manual yet...

Just got mine today...and it is awsome! 8-)

The only thing that is bad about it is Nintendo hasnt launched the whole WiFi thing yet. But maybe soon :(
Well...thats what the Nintendo DS boards are saying anyway.

I had a preorder at EB because they said "Preorder it or else you won't get one before Christmas." I just happened to be out in Commack today looking for a CD and went to the gamestop, asked and they had a few for non-preorders. Bought it, went to EB, put the preorder money towards a game.

The system's cool, except my worst fear about GBA compatability came true. They mapped the B to the B and A to the A, so its practivcally useless for platformers (should've mapped B to Y.)

As for the actual DS games, I;ve only played a few minutes of Mario 64 DS, but it definately looks cool.

Oh yeah? Mayhem bought eight today for his buddies back home.

Beat THAT!

Just go to Best Buy or Toys R Us, no preorders and they had a ton of them with no limits. :)

Well, someone would have to be within 100 feet of you with a DS for you guys to connect. I think unless you set that up before hand your DS isn't gonna "sense" anything. Or am I missing something from the wireless capabilities here?

Damn, I can't wait till christmas!! I'll be getting Mario, feel the magic, Mr. Driller, and rayman.

Oh, and does anyone know if Mr. Driller is really only going to have an initial print run of a mere 2500 copies? I'm going to preorder it just in case, but still, that's insanely low.

I'm in NYC. There's got to be a DS within 100 feet.

Perhaps I'm being far too hopeful. I really was under the impression that you could put the DS into a sleep mode of sorts and if it sensed another DS it would wake up and ask you if you want to intiate a connection...

I'm trying to decide between buying one next month and waiting until next year to see if there is a price-drop. If the thing is doing well, I'll be waiting a year (not going to wait that long) - but if it doesn't do well, maybe I can save some cash.

Has anyone given the GBA carts a try on it yet? They look SO MUCH better on the DS than the GBA SP.
DS + Backlit Screen = AWESOME Picture
GBA SP + Frontlit Screen = Good Picture

I love my GBA Sp but the picture on the DS is just so much better for those games. I love the Stereo sound to, it sounds so good. When I show people the sound, they can't believe it's coming from my handheld, it sounds that good. It's also cool that Nitendo included a headphone jack!!!!!

wouldnt hold my breadth if i were you,

remember how long it took for the GBA and SP to drop in price? about 2 years for gba and 3 years for sp.

They won't... they are all going in the check in (I won't have room in my carry on as the 20+ Gamecube games I bought are going there!). Not THAT daft now heh... Customs can hopefully take a running jump as usual, never been stopped (though yeah I know, karma says I will now :P )

The story is, with the unit not out in the UK until March and you can use a normal SP charger on it, then we get use and charge them in Blighty perfectly okay :)

I'm playing Mario 64 DS right now (12 stars so far). It's better than I expected and the GBA games look great on it. Only things that scares me is the launch reminds me of the Dreamcast launch (the only other system I've bought at launch). DS is looking too have quality over quantity just like the Dreamcast.
