G4TECHTV NINTENDO DS DAY (SUCKS!!!)

I guess all day today was DS Day, & the shows (I saw starting at 4pm) were shown on a TV-screen sized DS, but on the little upper screen. A 15-20 min video loop of DS features/games was shown below (w/ no audio...)

I could barely make out the printing on the upper screen, which was reduced to less than 1/4 of its usual size. I could hardly read the CinemaTech video list & I had to watch a miniature Diane Mizota! :angry:

I'm not against Nintendo's new handheld (THIS time) but I hope whoever had this bright idea at G4TECHTV gets a sound thrashing!

Im sure it wasn't someone at teh studios fault. I am sure Nintendo offered them a decent amount of cash to do that.

BTW, this doesn't apply to G4TechTV Canada, which is broadcasting its shows as usual. There are some DS ads but no stupid split screen.

I agree, this idea was mental to say the least. I was watching Icons that was done on the history of Mario, and I could hardly see the damn thing. At the end Myaomoto (sp) drew a picture of Mario, and I couldn't see what it looked like at all, and I really wanted to.

About G4techTV's Nintendo DS Day:

The screen "layout" was a cute idea on paper, I suppose, but not so in practice. It was one of the most blatant, if not slightly sickening, examples of product placement I've seen on modern television, and of course, the shows were squeezed into that tiny square (not that I've been watching much G4TTV, anyway).

Wow, people actually still watch that network? I didn't think people who liked games gave a damn about it. It's just like MTV - no substance, and the same crap repeated over and over and over again. The last time I watched it, G4 that is - I haven't tuned into the network since the merger, they were still running the same screenshots from a year and a half before. The Icon documentaries are cool, however.

I happened to see this while flipping past, it turned my 47" widescreen into something like a 19" with very bad resolution.

Almost as bad as "Halo 2 day" last week (EQ2 came out on the same day, and it's a much better game, so where's my EQ2 day?)

Hey, I like G4TechTv. Of course, since I get the Canadian version of the channel, it's not 100% the same... Even my boyfriend the non-techie likes to watch the Screen Savers (we both like Alex) and Leo Laporte's new version of Call for Help.

The only annoying thing with the channel is that they continue airing old "consumer tips" fillers from the old TechTV Canada (let's say that a tip capsule about which console to buy between the PS2, GameCube and Xbox seems awfully dated when you consider that we're now talking about 3- or 4-year-old consoles). I also find it a bit hard to follow their schedule (thank God digital cable includes on-screen TV guide!).

And I agree that Icons is a darn good show (yesterday, we got the one about Half-Life).

i love that show. i stopped watching alot of the crap on there, since it was already said, it is like the video game version of mtv.

arena, man, they need to mix it up with other games. everytime i used to watch it, they had unreal tournament, another fps, and burnout 2. now i think they have other console games, but they still always have ut, plus some other fps game.

do not get me wrong, i do enjoy some of the shows. i used to watch g4 when it first came out, but that was because i wanted to get my score put up on television (which i will not discuss here, as the conspiracy goes very deep and this is for ds/psp).

now for the ds day. i guess i missed it working a double shift. from what people tell me, it is a good thing i missed it. if they wanted to do it a cool way, they could have done it ds style and had other stuff for the show or about the show you were watching on the bottom screen. that would have been cool imo.

Lets get the whole xplay vs judgement day thing going in this thread too, because it's only happened a million times on every fucking board out there and is a STUPID arguement.. let me sum it up for everyone right now:

xplay - Morgan has hot tits, looked better as a blond, and requires 5 hours of makeup to look reasonably attractive - Sessler is such a spastic fucktard that he's rather funny. Their reviews are pointless, obviously written for them to read, and a 5 point grading system is dumb.

Judgment day - Noone likes tommy because he's completely honest in his reviews by bashing what he doesn't like, Vic is too nice on too many things even if he doesn't like the games.

Frankly, I love judgment day (tommy included, I LIKE to see what's bad about a game) Noone has given me ANY other negative input about judgment day besides "Tommy is a jerk/idiot" so I guess that one wins.

I like the channel. And I like both review shows. And I like Morgan Webb. She's hot. Far from perfect, at least they're on subject.

Now let's get this straight. Television sucks. It panders to the lowest common denominator and maintains an utterly topical approach to even the most important issues. If I want to learn something useful, I have to resort to, ugh, words or experience.

Having said that, I'm happy to see that there is at least a channel that talks about stuff we might be interested in here in geekland.

Truth told, Tivo and other DVRs are the best thing to happen to televisions since the remote control. Period. If you don't like, don't save it.

There are christian channels on TV but that doesn't mean that all christians watch the channels. I'm sorry, G4 is stupid beyond belief. 90 percent of the time they are showing reruns. WHY THE HELL do I want to watch reviews of Devil may Cry 2? Its FReAKING NOVEMBER 2004. Not to mention EVERY OTHER SHOW is about MADDEN MADDEN MADDEN! SCREW MADDEN, I don't need 5 shows in a row that TALK ABOUT MADDEN!

Now lets get to their Joke of a show called Players. These people should NOT be on a video game network. 99 percent of them only Own a PS2 with Madden being their only game. Its sad when they give them games to play. I remeber seeing one episode where they were playing mortal kombat and the famous guy had obviously never played it before, and sucked at video games, so he was holding the controller upside down and smashing all the buttons. Oh yea, he didn't know who SCORPION WAS (how the hell is that possible?). Yea, your a "player" all right.

Overall I give the channel a D-, because NEW EPISODES THAT ARE RECENT of X-play are watchable, horrible but watchable.

I just watch too much TV in general. The reason G4 pisses me off so much is because it has (had?) so much potential but it just keeps pandering to the LCD. You said "tell me another video game channel". I was sorta trying to say that you (not you specifically) don't need a channel.
