View Full Version : My Super 8 ate my game!

So the other night I put SMB into my Super 8 so my girlfriend and I can play (it's the only game she likes). I go to pull it out, it sticks like usual, so I resort to my usual method of pulling as hard as I can. Eventually, the cart comes out, but the green plastic chip board-type-thing is still connected to the pin connector! I have to break out the jaws-of-life pliers to free it. Now I'm afraid to put any NES games in my Super 8 for fear that they might meet the same fate... :( Any suggestions?

The super 8 rocks.. I'd just be more gentle with your carts..

I knew Super 8's really held the game in there, but I've never heard of ripping a cartridge apart trying to pull the game out. I guess you could always try it again with another SMB cart, seeing as they're more common than white people. Could your now broken SMB cart possibly have had the screws on the cart loosened or something? I can't imagine it grabbing onto a game like that. Is there the slight chance that something might have got in the contacts to cause the problem?

If all else fails, buy my Super 8. :P

Maybe it was just the cart...although it is a pretty interesting anomaly. The cart is still fully intact; the circuit board just came right out of it...at the top of the circuit board there are 3 small holes...are screws supposed to go in these holes? If that's the case, then thats pretty odd...thoughts?

The way the carts are constructed it is impossible to rip out the board without either the cart halves being completely loose or several things breaking off completely

I was thinking the exact same thing when i heard about that. Maybe just the pins part were stuck in, or maybe it was missing some screws.

How big is the board, exactly? Maybe somhow the cart broke inside the cart or something, the board that came out is around 4" x 1.5".

That sounds about right. Most older games took less than 30% of the space inside NES cart. Some newer, more complex game may take as much as 50% of the space but still small.

I'm still interested in figuring how that board came out. There's a few plastic clips inside that holds the board in place. Did you find any small grey pieces in the Super 8?

Well, upon futher inspection, the plastic clips that hold the board in on the SMB cart were broken, but still attached to the cart. If they would have broken off completely I would have noticed it right away. Once again, I count my blessings that it was SMB and not MULE or Tecmo Super Bowl :)
