Ok, now, you have to be realistic about this. You have to really try to think about how much money you spend per month. This includes new systems, games, accessories, you name it, if it has to do with playing video games.

Basically, try to estimate what you spend in an average 12 month period and then divide by 12.

I would say that for me I spend about $127.45 per month.

Man, this is can be a rather expensive hobby. Especially when I can have a month were I can actually spend over $500. Luckily, I usually will have a few months where I don't really spend a damn thing.

Also, if you have a Wife, or live in girlfriend. Do you hide the amount you spend on this shit? Do you try to keep it on the under?

I am in the $175-$225 amount. Closer to the $175 amount though.

This is an awesome poll!!! And topic that I don't think has ever been done.
I used to hide the total from my girlfriend a couple of years ago when we first started going out, but now she is my shopping and game finding buddy and doesn't care at all how much I spend. She knows that videogames are my love and passion.
I got lucky because she also LOVES playing games too!

i'm in the $25-50 range...there's still oodles of great games i can get for $1-10, and i hardly ever buy new, and won't if it is $50 (i'm thinking the last game i bought for $50 new was when ff8 came out...maaaaybe one or two after that but i can't remember doing so.) i have bought a few $20-40 new games tho.

i'd say the last 4 months i've bought 5 games a month.

id say im in the $50-75 dollar range, generally whatever money i can get my hands on is immediately gobbled up by my neo geo.

I'm lucky if I spend $25 a YEAR on games/equipment nowadays. Having a child does that to you!

If we're talking about just me, I probably spend $25.00 per month at the *most* on gaming in the past year or so. I am now married, but I think that a lot of it comes down to what I am and am not interested in. For a while, I was grabbing DC titles. Now, the only thing that I may be picking up is an odd Xbox title here and there (always less than $20.00, rarely more than one a month) or a really interesting looking PSOne game. I consider all of my other collections "complete" as I have all the 2600, NES and SNES games that I like and aren't actively hunting out more. If there is something I hear about that sounds like I might like it, I may check it out (High Speed on the NES was the "most recent" addition, probably in 2002.)

I don't have to hide it from the wife as long as I'm sensible about it. The other day, we stopped at Gamestop because I wanted to pick up Sonic Mega Collection + really badly, and she didn't mind at all. In fact, I've probably bought 50% of my meager Xbox collection with her around, and as long as it isn't me just purchasing like crazy, she doesn't mind.

When I get games, I get them to play for the most part (excluding parts of the Dreamcast and Jaguar collection). Considering that the 15 or so Xbox games that I have right now I can't find the time to complete, and I've got about 100 DC titles, 10 PSOne titles and 15 Jaguar titles "on deck," I couldn't justify to myself spending more than that. Especially considering I want a house and have a bad addiction to pinball and arcade machines, already having owned seven of them (currently four).

For the systems I don't collect for, if I want to check out some games for them I can usually borrow from the GOAT Store, which is very nice :D I've currently got a Genesis on loan with a bunch of beat-em-up titles.

Wow, that's REALLY spread out voting.

I usually buy 3-4 $20 games, I don't spend more than $20 on a game anymore unless it's HTF and going UP in price instead of down (atlus games)

Does money I spend on my video game site count? In any case, usually $300-$400 a month - but it can get higher... and lower. And my wife knows exactly what I spend and while she has some issues with it she is pretty good overall.

I used to be on the high end of the vote, now I'm closer to the middle. I'm looking at about $125-$175 a month. I'm at about $300 for this month-which is better than I'd originally thought it to be. But the next few months are thin with new stuff I want, thankfully.

I'm sure I'll find a way to spend the money, though. LOL

Over $250.00 a month for sure if you add in estate auctions, ebay buys, flea market hauls, ect.

The only time my wife minds is when I have all the new junk laying around the house and not properly stored away yet. LOL

It never ends, does it?

I used to spend more than I do now, buying games just for the sake of buying games. I don't buy ANYTHING for my Cube. I keep it around to play PSO on, since I've put far too much time into my character just to get rid of it. I also have all of the Zelda stuff for it....and the second reason that I keep my Cube is in hopes of a new Zelda game. I do buy the RPGs that are released to Cube. Every other Cube game I can live without.....and quite easily do.

I'm trying to get my PS2 purchases down to the absolute minimum that I can.....but they keep releasing games that I really want. I'm never satisfied to rent games. I have to own them. I'm trying really hard to buy nothing with the exception of dungeon crawlers and Gran Turismo 4. I try to buy nothing but games with replay value.

I collect for my N64. Games are still somewhat pricier than I'd like to pay...but I do because it's the hobby side of gaming for me.

I used to be on a Genny tear....but I've stopped that now. I have a library of some of the great Genny games....and that's where it's going to stay. Same with NES.

I just started Dreamcast again. Those games CAN be had for peanuts.

I dumped my XboX. I was considering what life would be like if I also dumped my Cube and PS2 as well. Then I'd be focused on my N64 as my main system. I lived with just an N64 once.....could I do it again?

One of my resolutions for next year is to make a concious effort to trim the game related spending. I have a hugely expensive bike jones as well, and I work in a bike shop.

Do you know what I think the biggest problem for most of us might be? It's the fact that you can defer your game payments by using credit cards to pay for them. THAT'S dangerous.

I spend bewtween on average about 50 a month. Thats mostly from ebay because I get a lot of stuff for free from friends or for really cheap. But I have got about 100 games a month on average since I started collecting

Cheap ass gamer here ... most of my stuff comes from thrift stores, flea markets, garage sales and the like. Sometimes it seems like it's more about the hunt than the treasure itself.

Of course like any gamer and collector, I have months that blow that average out of the water (like every month there's an arcade auction).

I spend various amts from $20 a month to $500 + a month. It all depends. I spend more during the summer months with yard sales and flea markets

Used to be around $100 / month. Now it's down to more like $25 / month. And I still have stacks of relatively unplayed games. Sometimes it's good to appreciate what you already have. Especially when you're (relatively) broke. Still, I will get Atari Anthology pretty damn soon.

$250 easy. Heck, I dropped $235 just today (Monster Rancher, Rumble Roses, MGS3: Snake Eater, Bombastic, VF4: Evo, Ape Escape 2, and a PSTwo).

Yesterday, spent $110 on EB.com on some used PS2/Xbox junk i'll turn into Metroid Prime 2, PoP: Warrior Within, Mario Tennis, and some other games.

I think I've spent about $180 dollars buying from the forums within the last 30 days.

Looks like I've spent $461 on eBay in the last 30 days... (granted, SOME of that was Christmas presents).

Wow, now I know why my wife yells at me sometimes :embarrassed:

I've really got serious spending issues...

EDIT: Just for fun I checked some of my old posts. The only concrete info I have is that I had 900 games as of April 25th of this year. Now I am well into 1900 unique games.

7 months = 1000+ games. Thats 4.76 games a day over that span. At an average of 10 dollars a game, that's 47 dollars a day.

I can't wait to give my wife the statistics...

I was just thinking about this today. I spend about an average of $3.00 a day. That brings me to about $90.00 a month. Amazing how fast $3 games add up.

When I first got into retro gaming, I was spending like crazy. The main reason was that I had gotten rid of all the old systems back in the day, to make way for the new systems, so I had to start from basically scratch to get everything back.

Then there is my whole RGB monitor addiction and my Home Theater related addictions that have an awful lot to do with Video Gaming. When you buy a huge TV primarily to play Video Games on, then that adds to the totals.

Lately, I've gone with a less is more approach. At least, that's what i've been trying to do. Whether or not I will be successful in sticking with it is definitely debateable.

But really, the only money that I've spent lately on Video Gaming has been getting Gamer's Passes at Blockbuster.

I've got so many freaking games now, and I came to the conclusion that I'm not a collector, more just a gamer that wants to revisit all the classics and great games that I somehow missed along the way.

I've been trying to sell alot of stuff lately on Ebay. I've decided to trim down my collection of alot of stuff, and clear some room out. So I've been selling some of my wares. I still have a very nice collection of SNES and Genny carts, as well as other stuff, and tons of silvers for the old cd rom based systems.

I'm cool with what I got.

But I would like a DS and the new really skinny PS2. But I'm going to hold off until I sell some more old stuff.

It just depends on what's coming out. I've been big on the new releases lately, but it's only been the sub $30 games. I did get a DS this month, so that pushes the average up a bit.

When I'm playing nothing but FFXI, it's low.. like < $50/month.

I've been around $125-$175 this year. Maybe even the next rung up @_@ This is also the year I got into Neo Geo MVS...

But I've been pruning my collection and doing freelance web work to pay for it...

Cheers,
Ben
