The two 7800's I've had both had flaky video output with wavy lines, static. This seems like a must-do mod..

Did you try replacing the crappy stock RF cable with a heavy duty shielded cable? My signal went from nearly unusable (due to interference) to pretty clean (for RF) when I did that. It cost me less than 10 bucks at Radio Shack.
