I've often wondered how people feel about the use of these little peripherals.

Myself? I don't play online nor would I use them online, but I'll sometimes use them for codes such as "unlimited ammo" or "unlock all tracks" in games that I don't "care" about. I won't use "level skip" codes. I'll use them in a game like Hydro Thunder...but won't use them in a game like Gran Turismo. Some games I want to earn, some I want to breeze through just to experience the story.

My Game Genie has become a great help in making some Genesis games a bit more manageable. I find Genesis games to be very difficult.

Does anyone else use them and do you use them sometimes, all of the time, use all codes or just some of them?

Mmm i don't use it to cheat but to get my games to work immediatly in my nes, sometimes the game doesn't work at once when i put it in my toaster, since i use my game genie it every time works perfect. 8-)

I don't really care much for them, but I did receive a NES Game Genie from Joe. Maybe I'll try it some time for unlimited lives, when I feel lazy or something. They're novelty products as far as I'm concerned, in other words, they can sometimes come in handy, but you don't really need them to appreciate your games (some purists may even say that it ruins the fun of the original games by adding a god-game mode).

Anyway, for me, it's not that different from the debate regarding the use of strategy guides.

I only use it for Snes or Nes games that are incredibly hard but still fun to play.

Most of the console copiers I own allow you to enter cheat codes, so that's what I use instead.

I mean, uh, er, if I were to cheat, that is.

Only such devicre I have is a game genie for Genesis, but I use that to play megadrive games. If a game has cheat codes already then I might use them (like Contra with it's famous code), but I don;t use game genies and stuff like that.

Genesis game genie is great for allowing the play of MD games and also to unlocking some hidden stuff in games.

I've also found that using one (but not inputting codes) is the only way to allow the "unoffical" Genesis games to run on a Model 2 or Nomad.

Only system I purchased a GameShark for was the Dreamcast. Used it to see some of the rare weapons in PSO and to enable imports to be played.
