So, which is your favorite itiration of Donkey Kong, game-wise?

Do you prefer Miyamoto's early games (Donkey Kong & Donkey Kong Junior)? Is Rare's version of Donkey Kong, as seen in DK Country up to DK 64, more your cup of tea? Maybe you prefer the extended version of the original DK via the 1994 Game Boy version (DK 94) or the 2004 GBA remake (Mario Vs. Donkey Kong)?

Maybe you don't like any Donkey Kong game, except for Donkey Konga?

So, what is it?

I'm very partial to the original DK and DK Jr., although I really like DK 94/Mario Vs. DK.

I love Donkey Kong 3. I have no idea why. I can play this over and over and over again on my GBA. I was the only one pumping quarters into it in the local arcade.

All of the other DK variations - modern and classic - are great stuff. But I love shooting the big ape in the ass with bug spray. Makes me laugh. LOL

Donkey Kong Jr. is my favorite, followed closely by the original. I'd put the Donkey Kong Country SNES games in 3rd.

Donkey Kong Jr. without a doubt. I grew up on it for the old Coleco, and it's still a fantastic game even today. The original Donkey Kong probably comes in second. I have to give a close third place to the Game & Watch version of Donkey Kong Jr. though - GREAT stuff!

I really agree with you, being that it just have been updated with Mario vs. Donkey Kong, DK '94 is a great game.

Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr. are a few of the best games ever made in my opinion.

donkey kong and donkey kong jr are my favorites,followed by donkey kong country.actually,donkey kong is my favorite nintendo charecter.i also use him in mario kart and smash bros.

It's gotta be the original arcade Donkey Kong for me. Not the NES or various other ports.. Only the arcade version. Emulated is ok too. I like DK Jr. as well.. but it just plays too slow for me.

I used to be a purist and only like the Japanese Donkey Kong where the levels progress in a linear 1-2-3-4 order. But these days I prefer the U.S. version since it mixes up the levels a bit for more variety.. plus, you can get "higher". I aint a wizard by far.. but I was happy recently when I finally managed to score over 100k :D

Donkey Kong 3 is cool once you realize 1) It's a shooter like Galaxian and Galaga and 2) You DON'T need to shoot DK in the ass. Actually later on in higher levels it's pretty much almost impossible to get DK off the screen and the only way to clear a board is to shoot all the bugs.

Once DK hit the DK Country series.. ehh that wasn't DK. That was RARE's version of DK. These are the same guys who designed Tippy the Turtle or whatever his name was and the Banjo Kazooie characters (great games.. shitty characters LOL).

How about the horror known as DK and DK Jr for the Atari 2600? Is it just me, or does DK Jr. actually look like Big Bird in DK Jr 2600? As for DK 2600, I believed for years that the fireballs in the rivet level were flaming cats... LOL

Donkey Konga is my fave. I never really got into the SNES games. I have DK64, but haven't played it yet so maybe my opinion will change when I do.

My brother always called the fireballs "leggies". Why? Who knows!

For me, DK3 rocks my socks. I played this A LOT at the local arcade and got pretty damn good at it. Very underatted, frantic platform/shooter. The home versions I've played are pretty good as well.

I love the series in general, particularly the first three games.

I'd still rate the original DK as my favorite.

Sniderman, you're not alone, DK3 is my second favorite.

DK Jr. is my third favorite.

I LOVE the Super Game Boy version of Donkey Kong, and to some degree, the more recent GBA Mario vs. Donkey Kong.

I did not enjoy the Donkey Kong Country series.

I LOVE the super gameboy donkey kong! My all time fav.
Also, im not too fond of the Donkey Kong Country series....I think its because it is so different that the originals x_x

My favorite is always going to be the original DK, but Donky Kong Jr. comes in at a close second. I was just playing the latter a couple of days ago on my ADAM as I had begun trying to re-organize my computers and consoles. Needless to say, very little in the way of organization got accomplished.

Donkey Kong Trilogy on the Snes is my fav, and i have never played DK64 is it any good? i kinda gave up on the N64 about 4 months after i got it for Xmas?!?

I wish i hadn't but at the time i wasn't a happy bunny! :/ i didn't think it was that good, i know i was wrong!! i still have an N64 and quiet a few games i think i'll try it again and see whats, what?

I gotta go with the original, followed closely by DK Jr.; so many good memories attached to those games. I really need to get an E-card reader one of these days so I can play the real deal again, or at least as close to it as you can get.

So here's my question regarding the Kong family tree: is Donkey Kong Junior the same entity known in the 16 bit years as Diddy Kong? Are they brothers? Stepbrothers?

DKC2, because it combined some of the best rendered sprites with the greatest level design and music that only a few games can compare with.

Donkey Kong 64 is my favorite. There are SO many moves to remember and the world is SO massive that you constantly get lost. The game needed a map. This was the game where Rare showed all of their prowess. Phenomenal lighting effects. These guys ruled the N64. Definitely one of the most talented game studios ever.

Other than that, I like the SNES games as well, mainly because I can play them. The earlier DK games are frustrating.
