Any Pinball Hall Of Fame reviews yet?

I was at my local Gamerush today and saw that they just got Pinball Hall Of Fame in (Xbox). I'm a big pinball nut and really wanted to pick this up, but I thought I should wait until I see some reviews first. I know it's only $20 but the last $20 pinball game I got was Pure Pinball and I didn't think it was that great. Anyone here get it?

I'll be posting a general review about it as soon as anyone around here gets it. I've seen it in PS2 version, but I am holding out for the Xbox one. It has had it's release date changed about ten times, but with what you just said hopefully it will arrive here any moment :)

Ack. Someone over at the GameFAQs boards posted some impressions of the game and they weren't too hot. This guy said the ball physics are off (a big turn-off for me in pinball games) and there are some major glitches that caused the game to freeze-up.

I dunno. I was going to pick this up tomorrow but I think I'll wait a while 'till some more reviews are in. The game doesn't sound as great as I thought it would.

From the bit of previews I've heard...

The ball physics are off by a bit (but it sounds to me like the problems they are claiming are because they aren't used to electro-mechanical games, which usually play a lot slower than solid state games).

The table they keep claiming you can unlock is actually a mini-game. Blech.

There is a lot of interesting pinball stuff in there if you're a fan of the real game.

There are other interesting arcade games to check out beyond pinball, like a fortune teller and all that fun stuff.

I expect my copy will arrive by Wednesday. I'll post an abbreviated review here when I get it (full review in GameRoom).

Toyrus: $14.95. Plus a sale this week makes it $10.95. Eventhough there are some flaws: the game freezes when I play PLAY-BOY and the game reloads if you want to play it again, you can tilt for too easily, some other classics by G. are missing(remember the two level Haunted House pinball game?), and the flippers don't seem to allow you to really hit the ball hard, I get it for that price range.

I assume you got the PS2 version? I did see that game at TRU for that price, but it was only the PS2 version. I want the Xbox version...

The tilting thing will be interesting to see for me. If you say that, I will probably agree seeing as how especially with EM games, that is part of the strategy. I was playing an EM pinball game at one of the Midwest Gaming Classics and not shaking it, and the owner of it walked up to me and said, "If you want to get better, you have to shake the hell out of it!" and proceeded to do amazing things. Because of that, I have gotten a lot better at shaking all pins. Solid state games are usually much more touchy though.

With the flippers, is that a problem with every game or just the older games? From what I've played, EM games don't have that strong of flippers, and you have to be very lucky and skilled to flip the ball all the way to the top of the playfield. SS games aren't the same way though. If the SS games have the same type of flippers as the EM games, it would be extraordinarily annoying.

About flipping: I had to seem have trouble with Black Hole and Genie. But the problem is of course: it's not real pinball. I remember being able to pick up the front 2 legs of Williams' 8-Ball Deluxe w/o tilting. In this game, no matter what table I play, I use my left along stick a few times and I tilt.

That all depends on how the table is set by the operator. There is a "plumb-bob" fixture on the inside that tells the machine when it has been rattled too hard. You can set it to light, hard or anything in between... and you can turn it off entirely.

You use the analog joystick to shake it though? That could be slick. Try shaking it less violently and see if it tilts as quickly. That's the best way to save the ball from the drain IMHO, and it has yet to be emulated in a pinball game halfway decent. If you can actually vary how much you shake it, that's REALLY cool. :)
