I don't normally pass on rumors but this one comes via a fairly credible source. Seems that there will be another version of the DS coming out that has the wireless fixed so that it works with SP based wireless games. I have no time frame on this new unit and if the rumor had not come from this person I wouldn't have believed it myself.

if they are to do that...they'd do it very soon so its not the whole sp thing all over again..that would be senile

I hope this is not true....I was all geared up to play FF tactics today with a friend and our two DSes...logically the DS plays GBA games and it has wireless capabilites so (1+1=2) I should be able to play my GBA games in the DS??
NOO!! and I am VERY dissapointed wtf Nintendo? and not only that there is no place to put a link cable????
So how many times do we get burned before we say f it and just go with psp? I mean I understand if the DS doesn't playback as far as GBC but now I've got a GBA w/o backlight, an SP to play my Tactics and older games, my new DS with NO good release games, and now there is a new DS??? Do they not plan before they release a system? Are there focus groups???

If this proves true...
Nintendo has struck (your wallet) once again.

GBA support was a late addition to the DS, as Nintendo's original intent was to establish the DS as a "third tower," unrelated to the Game Boy line. In fact, Nintendo still claims that there will be a true follow-up to the GBA.
It would require special coding to allow Link Cable GBA games to use the DS wi-fi, well beyond simple emulation. It's possible that clever hackers will come up with a solution down the road.

Will FFTA work with the wireless links? I thought the game had to support it, or it wouldn't work anyhow

So far as I can tell they don't work.

Uhh.. Nintendo never claimed that GBA games would work on the DS in any mode other than the standard single-player mode. I'm not so sure what the fuss is about.

I know Nintendo never said Gba games would work with the wireless feature, but they never said they wouldn't.
My only issue is that if Nintendo wants to add a feature like playing GBA games on the DS then they should go all the way with it.
I think they would have an easier time convincing me of the "third pillar" idea if the DS didn't play GBA games at all.

Yeah, same here. I got a little pissed after reading about the SP connectivity problems, but then I realized that the last time I played a multiplayer GB game was 14 years ago on my 8th grade trip to Cedar Point.
I'm strictly 1-Player when it comes to handhelds.

Very Good Point...Although if Nintendo can make the DS worth carrying around (PDA Type Applications, Since it is WiFi) then you could just random challenge someone carrying that Platinum colored box with the black bottom.

the ds i actually play multiplayer, i forced a bunch of people to get it from my dorm and we all play, its great cause we dont need no wires or even be in the same room.
i agree with the whole single player only handheld thing, but again its cause i never had anyone to play with.
bomberman for ds is gonna kick ass.

Yes they did... well, they didn't directly, but even the DS user manual says "GBA games can only be played in single-player mode" or something like that.

Hmm...I have a few thoughts on this subject. I purchased the DS not really knowing all that much about it, and definitely not knowing for sure what previous Gameboy system titles it would play, if any at all. I was happy that they added the ability to play GBA games, but really was not expecting it at all. Having said that, would I think I was "burned" for purchasing the system just because I cannot multiplayer GBA titles? Hell no. I am considering this an entirely NEW game system, with bonus backward compatibility for playing "older" GBA single player titles. Hell, that's more than we used to get back in the day (ie: NES -> SNES)
