Darkstalkers (PlayStation) How to save to memory card?

I recently got Darkstalkers for the PlayStation. One thing I was looking forward to was the saving of high scores. On the back of the case, it says that the game takes up 2 memory blocks(!).

I read a review of the game, and the reviewer complained that there was no saving of high scores. I can't seem to find any PlayStation specific FAQs on this game, everything is for the arcade version. The manual and in-game menus make no mention of saving or memory cards at all.

Is this game capable of saving? If so, how to do it? If I recall correctly, there aren't any hidden characters. What else other than high scores could it possibly save?

It must be a misprint, because it doesnt have the memory card logo on the PAL Darkstalkers case and i dont think ive seen it on the menus either. Also, its been a while, but i think you can unlock the robot and pyros.

The copy I have is the "Fighter's Edge". I wonder if the longbox version has memory card listed on the back of the box? I couldn't find any images of the longbox back. It is impossible to find any reliable info on this game, I suppose because it is so old.
