Just wondering...for those of u who have the new PStwo

Is it really that bad? Does it really overheat all the time and has all those errors?

IF IT IS TRUE (cuz im lookign to get one)

do stores like wallmart/target/kmart still carry the old PS2

I'm looking to buy that one not the crappy re-make (if it is crap)

Other than one or two people on various message boards such as this one claiming they're hearing that they're massive failures, have had to return 4 or 5 of them, etc., I've heard nothing but good about them.

Everyone I've spoken to is happy with them. I'd say to ignore those rumors, most likely they're made up.

I've had no problem with my PSTwo since I got it (my problem with Amplitude had nothing to do with the console itself and everything to do with the fact that the game has an built-in language lock that applies regardless of the PS2 version).

And according to the PSTwo's manual, you don't even have to turn off the console to change disks. The disk stops spinning pretty soon after opening the lid; you do have to hit the reset button afterwards, though.

Don't put a modchip in it and you will be fine. All of the broken consoles I have heard about have had modchips installed. PSTWO hates modchips for some reason. They are working on a fix though.

PSTWO hates modchips for some reason.

Discouraging new PS2 owners from modding their systems is enough of a reason to discontinue the production of older PS2 units as far as Sony is concerned.

Query:

Is the power switch on this new model still on the back?

There is no power switch on the PSTwo. There is no need for it and arguably has never been a need for it. The console simply goes into standby mode when you press the front power button just like the older models do.

I haven't had any heating problems or other problems. My only complaint is that the lid doesn't open up all the way when you hit the eject button. Well, that and it doesn't like Disc 1 of my FF Chronicles...

I bought the stand on Monday and it looks really nice and normal, though I might just keep it flat because even though it looks cool being vertical, I find it takes too much coordination to snap the disc in. LOL

The on/off/reset button is located in the front of the PSTwo, btw.

@Manimal: I never could imagine how anyone could use the vertical stand with either version of the PS2. IMO, it would have worked better had the drive been a slot-loader instead of a tray-loader or a top-loader...

I've had my PStwo for about a month now, and I haven't had any problems at all. No overheating or anything. I think overall there shouldn't be many problems with the systems. If there is, they come with a 1 year warranty.

Some stores must still sell the old model. Think of all those people who want to play FFXI Online - You can't do that with the new one...

I was going to get one of the first batch, but im lucky I didn't now.

Overheating is just one of it's many flaws. People are reporting sticky lid mechanisms and loose internet connections amongst other things

We've sold dozens of them over the past couple of weeks nd not had a single return. That's much more impressive than either of the previous 2 models. However, I'd give it till after Christmas to see how many come back with read errors...

Don't worry about the PStwo....if you want one, buy it. There's always a group of assholes out there that claim that any new iteration of a console is shit. Too bad that 99% of it is unfounded, and most of it based on jealousy.

Here's a fact.....the average person STILL doesn't know how to properly handle a console that is disc based. MOST consoles crap out because of stupidity or laziness on the part of the owner.

I only wish that they had found a way to include the harddrive. Once you start using the harddrive for other than playing FFXI, it's awesome. No more buying memory cards!!!

I heard a rumor that Sony is going to use stick memory and make a memory card big enough for FFXI. It makes sense.

Just wanted to pipe in. I've only had my psTwo for a couple of weeks, but it's worked perfectly. And that's including an eight hour jag of GTA:SA the other night.
